so many great albums in 1990, especially for metal, I will make a second poll if this poll gets some votes and discussion.

so choose, vote and comment, the usual. Tongue
Have fun!

Our tastes have proved to be pretty different on many occasions already - I know a few but none of these is a top favourite of mine. The vote goes to Depeche Mode.

I have heard almost all of these, and own half of them. There’s a lot of groups I really love, but whose albums released this year were some of my least favourites by the band.

In the end, I had to go for Depeche Mode. Definitely not my favourite band from this selection (not even close!), but my favourite album from this selection....

Yes, Violator is a great album, but I'm hesitating between this one and Queensrÿche's Empire, their second best (imo, of course). The others, as far as I've heard them - about 10 - do not much to me. I don't think I ever heard the a-ha album in full; might try that one some day...

Oh, and the balance went in favor of Violator...

I can’t say Empire is my least favourite Queensryche album, because there are several I like less - but it is possibly my least favourite album of theirs that I own. I can’t deny that there are some great songs on it, but I think that’s also why it doesn’t work so much for me. It’s like they went out to write a bunch of songs that were individually very good, without caring too much how they hung together. So even though I might like individual songs from Empire more than individual songs from, say, Hear In The New Frontier, it is the latter album which I enjoy more, as an album. But I know I am probably in the minority for thinking this way....

the album tittle is strange. it's "Hear in the Now Frontier". Makes no sense to me. But it's a good album, I do enjoy Empire more though. Smile

The only good albums from 1990 that I can think of are not on the list.

I know Emily Remler, I forgot about her. Embarrassed

Gong's album does not count since it's a live show from the 70s, so...

I've never explored Christian Vander solo, I might look into it. Smile

I assume it’s meant to be a pun, caught somewhere between Here in the Now Frontier, and Hear in the Now Front Ear? 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s a lousy title, but as you say, it’s a good album. Promised Land is probably my favourite, with Rage For Order my second favourite, and Operation:Mindcrime rounding out my top three.

Violator is the only album I have in your poll, so the choice was obvious, although I was tempted to vote for Deep Purple. Smile

Living Colour is my third favourite album from this selection. A great band that is so much more than “just” the band who did Cult of Personality.

I went and looked, and I have a lot more 1990 albums in my collection than I thought.
Here’s 12 that I don’t think are in your list (if I’ve repeated anything blame it on covid brain fog), that I particularly like:

Adrian Belew - Young Lions

Blues Traveler - Blues Traveler

The Chills - Submarine Bells

Duran Duran - Liberty

Brian Eno & John Cale - Wrong Way Up

Extreme - Pornograffiti

Galaxie 500 - This Is Our Music

Jane’s Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual

Mark Lanegan - The Winding Sheet

Lou Reed & John Cale - Songs for Drella

Straitjacket Fits - Melt

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Ragged Glory

That Extreme album is really good.
I don't know (a few don't do much for me) the rest of the albums in your list.

I had a feeling that Extreme might be the only one of those you might like. Much of the rest is probably not not much interest to too many on this forum. I definitely wouldn’t have expected any of those albums, except perhaps Extreme, to have a place in this poll! 😄

Seems a bit ridiculous, having such an edge, to vote for Violator, but I can't help it. Enjoy The Silence wins by itself
