I love each of the singers here, but my favourite in the genre is Badlands' Ray Gillen (RIP)

I'd like to see John Lawton in this list. What do you think?

yes, Filippo, the first two Crimson Glory albums are really astonishing.

Yesterday, listening to Saxon, this poll came to my mind as Bill Byford fits completely the bill...

I like almost all of the bands listed above, and I'm a huge fan of some, so it is really tough. I'll go with Midnight (rest in peace), because he's often overshadowed even being one of the finest voices hard&heavy scene ever had. The first two Crimson Glory albums are masterpieces, and contributed to make my way through prog. Dickinson, Halford, early LaBrie, Kiske and Criis deserve the title too, though..

I happened to look through my vinyls, and it turns out that I do have Sanctuary's Refuge Denied.  I thought that it looked familar.  I probably haven't listened to it over 25 years.  That'll have to be remedied fairly soon.

it is neither hard-rock nor metal in my book. That's why I didn't include him.

One more important figure missing: David Surkamp of Pavlov's Dog.

They flutter behind you your possible pasts,
Some bright-eyed and crazy, some frightened and lost.

I thought about including him, but I wondered if he is really representative of a high-pitched vocalist ?

Curious as to the omission of the third member of the Holy Trinity: Ronnie James Dio.

thanks for the reco, just checking right now. Incredible control of his voice, indeed. But I found more emotion in Tate's vocals (especially on 'rage for order').
