Hello Brother, Sorry for the late reply, but on behalf of all the band I wanted to thank you so much for the addition and generous words! We would love to head to that part of the world...However, right now a time machine would be more useful than a plane - as 1974, I believe, was the last year a major label would have advanced us enough to head down on someone else's dime..! We're still trying, though!

Hello, thanks again for telling me about this problem. After some kind of real struggle with the bandwith provider, things seems to be returning to normal. You *should* now download normally my albums, please tell me about any issue in order for me to get another provider. Again, I'm really sorry. But if you finally happen to listen normally to this music, just tell me or write a review :). Thanks for the interest in Jazzcomputer.org's music. Best, Yves http://jazzcomputer.org/ |

Pretty hate machine was one the best albums of 1989 for me. It is so innovative and I think still is relevant today. An absolute classic. Anyway. Yes. Get GHOSTS and enjoy the sh*t out of it. It's excellent and it's reznor's most advanced, mature work to date. ;) |

I've got all the N.I.N albums up to `Year Zero', but not the two since that one, including the instrumental album you mentioned. ALso got `Broken' , `Fixed' and the `Perfect Drug EP' which strangely doesn't seem to be listed on this site?
Although I don't listen to them all that much these days, I still think very highly of those albums and wouldn't even think of getting rid of them! And I love the rather naive clubby dance sound of the debut `Pretty Hate Machine'! Even though it's a little dated now, just the other day a friend and I were talking about it saying `Man, how much did that album blow our minds when we were younger?' lol! ![]() I'll definately try and snap up a copy of the `Ghosts' instrumental album though! |

WITH TEETH is a good album, but certainly not their best. WITH TEETH can be categorized as an industrial electronic dance album. Trent Reznor went a bit more experimental with this album and make no mistake it is not a prog album, but it does offer up a great dancey soundscapes. Also, I would do away with that live DVD and get the studio copy of With Teeth. Most importantly I'll give ya list of 3 albums that you should start with, so you can really get an idea of what NIN represent sound wise and what NIN are capable of. Start with..... 1) GHOSTS----this is Trent Reznor's most progressive and creative instrumental piece he has ever done. GHOSTS even achieved some commercial success because a few spots from the Ghost album was used in the soundtrack for the movie, THE SOCIAL NETWORK and REZNOR earned himself an OSCAR for best music score Ina motion picture!!!! 2) THE FRAIGILE: HALO 14---NIN are in full force here. Electronic industrial gothic metal performed at its very best. It's a double disc and you'll enjoy every song. Incredible stuff. 3) WITH TEETH or YEAR ZERO: you could do either of these albums because they both represent a different side to NIN where by electronic Dance is Heavey in their overall sound. Enjoy bud. And SAVIOUR MACHINE is a real treat. A bit of an undiscovered gem. P.A has received them quite positively. :) |

Hey ProgB.T.N!
Yes, it was kind of thorough - exhausting too! ![]() Just yesterday in a second hand store I came across a N.I.N live DVD, I forget what it's called, but it sort of had a bright red cover and it said it was from the `With Teeth' tour - it was $4, and I should have just grabbed the damn thing, because it's now out of my way to go back there! Should I make the effort?! Oh, and I totally forgot to follow up on that forum thread about your Saviour Machine recommendations - sorry! I'll look into them! Promise this time! ![]() |

And Austin, thanks for your clarification on the sometimes confusing Post Rock/Math Rock genre tag.

I double checked, and according to Wikipedia (which, as we all know, is the definitive source for all information!) : "Bainbridge continued to play bass with Hawkwind until late 1984. He then became the band's primary keyboard player, as Brock recruited the 20-year old Alan Davey into the band to play bass. Bainbridge continued in this role until 1991." I remember him specifically on one or two of the live Hawkwind DVD's like their `Classic Rock Legends' one with the blue cover, he had wild frizzy hair and performed some of the spoken-word passages from behind his keyboards. |

Harvey Bainbridge was the keyboard player in HAwkwind from 1978 to 1991 (I think), last played on their killer `Palace Springs' live album from that year! I don't think he's listed on the Archives, but I found a review here: http://www.dprp.net/reviews/201039.php#bainbridge - (URL thingy not working!) The reviewer didn't like the album much, but even said "I don't like electronic music like Tangerine Dream, etc etc..." at which point I thought, "Well, review's over, pal, nothing worth reading here!" lol! ![]() Thanks for your kind words, but for the record, there is NOTHING wrong with breasts, and your `pro-Kraut/anti-breast' agenda has been quite clear for some time! ![]() |

^ Haven't heard that one in quite a while. One of the few electronic albumsI can listen to, guess it's because of those heavy guitars. Very good album, I forgot I had it.

Hey Michael - even if I seem to remember the name Bainbridge, and I am not even sure it is in regards to this guy, it genuinely sounds like something I'd like. So thanks for the re-recommendation hahah!
Electronically wise, I strongly urge you to seek out Heldon's Stand By. It should be attainable, and unlike his previous efforts, this one feels very welcoming and friendly on the ears. It, of course, helps a wee bit if you're into electronic and Kraut, but that doesn't seem to be a problem with you. A very nice feature about you btw - I actually prefer it to breasts. |

Ha, already ahead of you there, Snow Dog, thanks for the recommendation! I've got an order I'm putting together with Greg Walker's Syn-Phonic, and when it appeared on one of his updates, I looked a few samples up and then asked him to put a copy away for when I finalize everything! Looking forward to it! |

Oh, `Fractals' got a 5 star review from me! It was a little pricier to buy, but well worth it. Great production too, and all the players sound amazing on it! Hmmm, now I'll have to look into KBB as well! ![]() |

Just listened to some samples of 'Fractals' excellent stuff indeed, totally different from their 80's. It reminded me a lot of the japanese group KBB, especially the violin. I think you should give them a try.

Hi Yves, sorry that I had to even bring this to your attention! It's very kind of you to offer potential listeners the oppurtunity to sample your albums, and I was really looking forward to trying them. I just tried to download `Elsewhere' again three times in a row, and it seems to get anywhere between 30 MB and 68 MB before. The actual speed is very fast, just not making it all the way! Hope it works out eventually! Edited by Aussie-Byrd-Brother - October 31 2012 at 04:47 |

I'm particularly sorry about this situation I wasn't aware of, mainly because I rarely download my albums myself :). Thanks a lot for teIling me about this. I've contacted the OVH provider in order for them to correct this problem ASAP. Again, all my apologies for this annoyance, I hope they will correct ths problem during the day... I'll post an update about that when things will have returned to normal. Best, Yves. |
