I agree about Genesis - The lamb; don't know if is the best, but at least better than the studio album

How about Counting Crows... Across The Wire?
Most rockers put Thin Lizzy 'Alive & Dangerous' near the top of any rock poll, along with 'Frampton Comes Alive' and Kiss 'Alive'.
I'll be a little more contemporary and suggest Symphony X: 'Live On The Edge Of Forever', (which has phenomenal energy) Threshold 'Critical Energy', (the track listing is nigh on perfect) Enchant 'Live At Last' (its about bloody time... and those boys do give a good concert) and PoS 12:5... awesome.
Ironically, although I am a DT fan, I couldn't put either of their 3CD Live efforts from the last few years into this category, because frankly, dispite the strenth of the material, they just don't hold up in my eyes (I will now have rude messages galore in my inbox).

I have to admit. It's good to see the Allman Bros. Fillmore East get a 3rd place here on this poll, being such a non-prog album it is. You gotta admit, it is one helluva live album. I intentionally made this poll open to prog and non-prog alike just to see how open-minded you all are. And so far, not bad. I didn't expect anybody to vote on Frampton, The Band or Jackson Browne or whatever. You see, I like just about all genres of rock, with a few exceptions like hip-hop (unless the words are very funny and interesting) and heavy metal or any kind of mindless music, but prog has been one of my favs (2nd only to fusion). It is good to see new groups like Spock's Beard and others keeping the prog sound going and up-to-date (although that is without a doubt the dumbest name for a group I've ever heard, no doubt what their favorite TV show is).

Voted Genesis - Live, Pink Floyd's Ummagumma and Yes' Yessongs would be my runners-up ... non-prog it'll have to be Deep Purple's Made In Japan, Iron Maiden's Live After Death and Wishbone Ash's Live Dates

Dude, you put Jackson Browne - Running On Empty but not Seconds Out from Genesis.
What were you thinking?

Live shows are always great as they give totall freedom. I like it most when the songs are changed extended or whatever, thats what makes a great live show.
In noting this I have to say that the Floyd really dont have a good live album. However I'd say that the quality of some of the Floyd bootlegs out there is incredable and there is nothing like a performance of shine on 6-12 that goes for 25 minutes. If anyone is interested Id be happy to send them one if they send me the discs first, just private me.
Cheers
Oh by the way i voted for ELP

yep...as much as I'd like to be 'cute' and go for something less conventional, 'Yessongs' it has to be...

I started this poll 4 months ago, it got critically panned and went dead for about 3 mos. Now all of a sudden it's coming back at me (KC's Islands mistake and all). Must've pushed a few buttons here.
I still go with Jimi's Band Of Gypsys though! Most original live album ever! Give me Yessongs, ELP's Welcome Back or whatever. But nobody ever did a live album of all original material back then. And good material too. Jimi went through a change here with a different band and sound. Hands down, a monumental feat! Anybody care to debate me with this one?
