Welcome, you've come to the right place for chats about prog rock. Your taste in prog is excellent (Genesis, Rush and Yes) and I would just like to backup what Andrea said about BJH. "Once Again" is one of the best prog albums ever. Since you like early Genesis you should like this.

Thanks for being so cool. I'm definitely gonna have to give that album a listen. If you think of anything else, let me know.

Moving Pictures is my favorite too. At our last show together, my band and I covered Tom Sawyer. The crowd loved it. By the way, thanks for all the suggestions. I just recently started listening to some Gentle Giant (about a week ago). I really like 'em so far.

My fav Genesis one...it's difficult to say...but I have to say SEBTP (The Battle Of Epping Forest in particular).
What about Strawbs and Barclay James Harvest? Do You know them?
|
I love SEBTP too, but my fav Genesis album is probably a toss up between Seconds Out, and Foxtrot (if you hadn't noticed by my screenname, my fav song is Supper's Ready)
I haven't heard of Strawbs and Barclay James Harvest. I'll have to check them out. I just recently started to check out new bands(by "new", I mean bands I haven't heard yet). For awhile I was content with just listening to what I had.
P.S. I forgot to mention that I'm a HUGE fan of Rush and Yes. They're 2 of my absolute favorites.

Try these albums:
Barclay James Harvest: Once Again (1971), Everyone Is Everybody Else (1974 and their best, IMHO), Octoberon (1976) and XII (1978, the last with Wolstenholme and his mellotron!).
Strawbs: Grave New World (1972 and my fav), Hero And Heroine (1974).
PS I recommend also Van Der Graaf Generator! Pawn Hearts (1971) and Godbluff (1975), in the new 2005 remastered edition (also recommendable Gentle Giant: Free Hand-1975).
As you see there's a lot of great stuff!
See you soon
Andrea!

From what Jethro Tull I've heard(not much), I like it. Sorry to say that I'm not too big of a Blue Oyster Cult fan though. I LOVE Genesis, they're probably my favorite band. I like Pink Floyd (Animals is one of my favorite albums). I don't know if you've heard of Gamalon, but they're from Buffalo, NY (my hometown) and they're like jazz fusion, they're also one of my favorites.

Sorry, I don't know Gamalon, they seem to be interesting...in these days I'm thinking to prove the US prog scenario, searching for Kansas' albums.
My favs PF albums are Wish You Were Here and The Wall!
My fav Genesis one...it's difficult to say...but I have to say SEBTP (The Battle Of Epping Forest in particular).
What about Strawbs and Barclay James Harvest? Do You know them?
Best Regards

Welcome, Supper's Ready. Sorry to hear you had to move away from your friends and are now stuck in Buffalo. But it's cool that you found a band to jam with. Lot's of cool people to talk to in this forum about music. I'm not one of them, but there are a lot around. So welcome and have fun.
Thanks. Just wanted to clarify that I moved TO Oklahoma FROM Buffalo. I'll proudly represent Buffalo and the impressive prog rock scene that is springing up there. Gamalon's been rocking that city for thirty years. If you haven't heard them, I highly suggest you give them a listen.

Oops. Just realized you moved to Oklahoma from Buffalo. Sorry about that, and here I am making fun of Buffalo. But Oklahoma is a downgrade for sure.

Thanks. I just recently found a band to jam with a little but I think they find it a little difficult to hold an intelligent conversation about music. Plus, I think they're a little turned off that a girl knows more than them about music.

Hi and welcome.
I'm pretty new to these boards myself.
Sorry to hear that you had to leave your friends behind. Hopefully you'll make some new ones.

Hey,
I'm a senior in Highschool who just recently moved to Oklahoma from Buffalo, NY (Home of one of my favorite prog bands: Gamalon). I left behind some good friends, and most importantly, a band. These guys were like brothers to me. We were just a group of kids who loved to play and listen to progressive music. When we weren't doing that, we were talking about progressive music. That's one of the things I miss the most, talking for hours about our favorite bands. So far, I haven't met anyone down here that's really interested in any progressive rock. So I joined this forum hoping to find a new family of prog fans to discuss music with.
Since I'm a newbie, I figured I owed it to everyone in here to introduce myself. So please hit me up to chat.
Thanks,
Kayla
