Have you ever listened to Greetings From Mercury ?
This group includes rap vocal. Musically, it may be close to XLS.

hmm- thats the weird thing. When it comes to punk and ska- I know it can be cringe-worthy but I don't mind it as much as I do hip-hop and rap. It's the lack-of talent, vanity and mysoginy that gets to me. And it lacks electric-guitars!!

I don't think so. Rap is related to other kind of contents. I'm not saying Rap music is bad, but Progressive rap would be somewhat strange, like making a soft drink sandwich or something. So, I would have to say no.

Prog hip hop?
There is of course the genre of trip-hop, which is based on extended
jams, advanced turntablism, and in some cases live bands. I know
of a trip hop band called BEAM that consists of a vocalist,
turntablist, drummer, upright bassist, and a special effects
bassist. They never play together except when they play live, and
they just flow for hours on end. It really is amazing
jazz-influenced hip hop and is definitely progressive in its own right.
also check out DJ shadow.
