Don't remember the title but the one song she "sings" (expires?) with Peter gabriel sucks a lot. |
It's either "another day" (appearing on the 'Christmas special' TV show) or "don't give up", both songs bringing tears to my eyes. But I suppose you are not aware of the first song, so you are probably refering to "don't give up", and in this case I don't understand yiur feelings towards this song : it is pure beauty.

I liked Kate Bush's music till the album "Aerial". As a male person she
incorporated for me the eternal vamp and at the same time the
innocent young girl looking for love, emotions and - perhaps -
surrender. From her album "Red shoes" I liked "Song of Solomon". There
she sings "... I don't want your bullsh*t, I just want your sexuality
...". That is obvious enough. The older song "Baboushka" is also
treating the relationship between man and woman. - That was ok for me -
as a male person.
The new album "Aerial" has a big flaw in my opinion. She is not seeking
anymore, she has found. She has her little son whom she is loving
absolutely. - This is a crucial problem in art. If you are
satisfied, happy and well situated there is notihing you can contribute
to art. Your senses are dull. They are blocked by your feelings of
happyness. Kate is expressing her happyness on "Aerial". That is ok.
But it does not meet my personal taste. It's a statement that cannot
reach my ears. The music is flat, there are some birds ont the CD
singing from time to time. Peaceful atmosphere. But this is not my
situation. And perhaps not of many persons.
I would recommend this album to any new mother and father, or, to
mothers and fathers in general. And if your are able to make money with
that - the better. And for her little boy it is the money he will spend
in the future. That's ok.
Art is only fisable in a situation of pain, sorrow, hopelessness. This
claim is not too bad. I have heard only very seldom, that the
oppositehas been going to work. Tschaikowsky has written his last
symphony in a kind of agony. And that's what makes it great. If he
would have been happy like a jumping dog before dinner the work would
have been flat. This does not claim that we all should be unhappy.
Flat - that's my impression of the music of the totally happy
mother Kate. I will make this record a gift to a girl that wants to
have children soon. And for that purpose it's perfect. Happiness is a
warm gun - the Beatles once told us. But does it help making good music?

Me too. Only Hounds of Love and Aerial are better imo.

whats wrong with asking for 'best of'? - these neagative threads are soul-destroying,they feed off negativity and cause bad feeling all round - no one makes you listen to kate bush and if you dont want to listen then just LOOK at her - mmmmmmmm

Probably would be something on The Dreaming. There is an eclectic mixture of gems and turds on that album.Failing that then Red Shoes has some very bland offerings.Perhaps 'Rubber Band Man'? That one grates!

On the subject however.....
Never liked 'Mother stands for comfort'...always thought it was the one weak link on 'Hounds of love'.

Well, for me, Kate Bush is amazing and has only one weak album in her career...my opinion, only.

I recently purchased 2 lps from her and couldn't get through them both. The music is tortuous to my ears I can tell that these will not be growers either. It's like quirky cliched 80's pop with this caterwauler of a singer that just grates on my nerves. I am sorry if this offends anyone, but hey...since the thread was brought up...why not.

ranger:
You are entitled to your views of course, but if you dont like an artist just ignore their work, OR if you wish to debate them, offer some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.
I happen to think Kate Bush makes fantastic music. I'm not that into these 'worst of' threads to be honest.
