Because they suck? I don't need a 5 page diagnostic report to tell you that I hate the band only fanboy scum need more of an explanation than personal preference.

Im not a huge Nirvana fan but "Bleach" is one hell of a perfect Rock record if you ask me!

^I like the Melvins to some degree. They are grunge, certainly, but they aren't what I'd call a more pure grunge, more towards the doom/stoner/doom metal perhaps, but hey they are shown in the Hype! documentary and fit in the "Seattle" scene well indeed.

I'm guessing I shouldn't post on this thread since I've lived in Seattle for the last 25 years, though actually I'm not a huge fan of grunge. However Nevermind kicks some serious ass.

I am not a grunge fan but I like it.OK they may have no mucisianship but I wish mainstream radio and MTV had that kind of music nowadays!! Although I was 4 years old when Ten and Nevermind were released I can picture that this was a great time for music , at least much better than the shallow eighties.
I think that Grunge and Shoegazing were the best things the 90´s offered.

Guilty as charged  ! Not the heroin part (hate punching holes in my arms ), but probably the basses or other assorted musical instruments. Nevermind is an OK album, but nowhere close to the musical Second Coming that it's been painted to be by the hip press. That doesn't mean I find Nirvana bad or anything... Just average, I guess.

^^^ I think Im right on that mindset as well with Nirvana. My girlfriend enjoys the hell out of them (has all their albums) and I just usually smile and nod when she talks about them the same way she smiles and nods when I go off on a Rush tangent . Still, they made some fun music. Fun in a depressing way I guess

I'm on two minds about grunge.
On one hand, I dig the hell out of the Melvins. They're basically the closest thing we have to what would happen if Salvador Dalí started a rock band... what's not to love about that? I also like a lot of the stoner rock bands that grunge inspired. I can even enjoy the more popular grunge bands, if mostly out of nostalgia for the 1990s.
On the other hand, I absolutely hate how grunge stole metal's status as "angry young man rock", something metal never really has recovered from. I'm not too fond of all the weak mope-rock that grunge went on to influence.
I guess this means that I don't mind grunge itself, but that I completely detest its effects with all my heart. No mystery Cobain killed himself.

I like Nirvana, but I do consider them overrated. Nevermind is a good rock album, but Nirvana would never have existed without Husker Du and The Pixies (among others), and IMO Doolittle and Warehouse: Songs and Stories are both stronger albums than Nevermind.

Maybe in their politics and attitude (I witnessed the Reading Festival tampon incident) but their music was closer to Tad, Nirvana etc than to Bikini Kill or Bratmobile.

Not a big grunge fan but I did like, and still listen to, Alice in Chains. Dirt, and especially Jar of Flies, are great albums.
