Teah, there are several bands from Spain that I am sure you could enjoy, my suggestions now in my mind are: Iceberg, Gotic, Cai, Mezquita, Los Canarios and Amarok, among others.

Hi,
Not Spanish, but on my CD player I accidentally came across Riuichi Sakamoto ... and you want to get Neo-Geo, Heartbeat and Beauty ...
Spanish ...
I am partial to a band called "Carmen" that was actually from Los Angeles, but had the best mix of rock music and spanish music you ever heard and they guy could translate his spanish chops to an electric guitar so easily that it was scary ... and far out! Out of this band came a bass player that ended up being with Jethro Tull for years until he passed away.
Some that I remember that might be worth a check or two, but I do not know them intimately but they had some nice stuff, albeit many of us might say ... too much Yes in this part, and then too much spanish guitar in this part and then too much Genesis in this part ... IF we do not know how to listen to music with discipline and accept that people can also be influenced by Beethoven and still play an electric guitar and tell him to roll over! ... a rather important concept in my head ... because otherwise one ends up saying ... sounds like ... and your appreciation goes right out the door!
Granada, Azahar and Triana right off the bat. But I have to tell you I did not get into many of them. But there is some serious musicianship in many of these albums! And sometimes a lot more dedicated to the music than some of the very inspirators of the actual style!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

There's a band called Kathaarsys who I believe is from Spain. They play a pretty good Opeth-inspired extreme metal/acoustic folk mix.

The only Spanish Prog band I know is Triana, and I totally loved their first 2 albums. 5 star albums both of them.

Hi guys, if anbody wants, I could teach several and importants bands from Spain in the 70s. The level is very good in some cases.
Remember I have opened a thread to talk about this but I can´t find... ![]() 2 examples. The first one is SMASH, with an amazing mixture of hard prog with flamenco. Incredible song. The other are STORM. The best for me. Bye and enjoy: ![]() ![]() |

If you're into flamenco rock, apart from some already mentioned here (Triana, Azahar, Granada, Cai, Mezquita, Guadalquivir, Iceberg, Imán Califato Independiente, Vega) i would add the first albums by Medina Azahara, Alameda and Gualberto.
From the non andalusian regions of Spain i strongly recommend you "Si todo hiciera Crack" by Crack and the first album of Eduardo Bort and also some mentioned above (Atila, Los Canarios and Gotic). |

Medina Azahara are heavy rock, influenced by Triana, just no more. Gualberto is more folk, not prog, just jammy sometimes...in my humble opinion from Spain.
Out from Andalucia and Seville: Magic prog folk from the fairy green lands of the Basque Country. Cool atmospheres. HAIZEA-ARGIZAGI EDERRA sung in my languaje, the most ancient in the whole Europe.
![]() Another female and knowed over this thread were ITZIAR. Excellent. There are many more interesting things, as SAKRE. They are basques from South France zone. But I can´t find examples. Bye. |

I will correct a previous poster who mentioned Iceberg as flamenco-prog. This is wrong. Iceberg was a catalan band and their music had nothing to do with flamenco-rock or -prog bands like Triana or Medina Azahara.
Iceberg's 1st LP "Tutankhamon" is a real gem of 70's prog-rock, really worth checking out. Their following albums went more towards the fusion direction but they are also great.
As classic flamenco-prog bands indeed Triana and Medina Azahara were wonderful.
In the more modern Neo-Prog style you have Dracma (especially their 2nd album "A fine stormy weather" is very good within the Neo realm), and Galadriel are also worth checking out.
And of course there is the classic double album "Ciclos" from Canarios which every 70's prog lover should know.

Medina Azahara is NOT a prog band. Please, learn some of their sounds please.
And in respect to Los Canarios Ciclos...here in spain people does not love it too much. It was a boring experiment with some tramps and no prog music really, lyrical instead. Some of the musics played movements in guitars, drums...and they were no credited. They did the dirty job. A weird album, not recommended Edited by SergiUriah - June 02 2010 at 15:29 |

Maybe Medina Azahara are not a prog band now, but i think they were a prog band in their beginnings and that's why I mentioned their first albums, to be more specific Paseando por la mezquita (1979) and La esquina del viento (1981), they have made more than 15 albums since then and i agree those are not prog. About Canarios i think it has some really good moments, maybe it was pretencious and not so original (because is based on Vivaldi's Four Seasons) but i still recommend it, I recently got the double cd minilp sleeve made in Japan and sold my jewel case cd. Gerinski is right, Iceberg was a great catalan band more jazz fussion oriented, but they made a glimpse to flamenco on "La flamenca electrica" from Coses Nostres. Sure their influuences and connectios came from Triana, Smash and The Storm, but that was turned soon in heavy rock, or andalusi rock, nothing to see with prog rock. Sometimes may be confussions... Excuse me if I looked like weird or angry but I like people listen to me, and I live in Spain and I have seen Medina 7 times since 1986. They ever did PROG. Canarios?? I will tell you a secret: they were mercenaries of music, they never felt what they did. One of their members is the president of the rights for musicians and is a dictadorship here in Spain. He usuallly wants money from childs who makes a performance in their colleagues playing musical hits, a bad person... Iceber were great, but pay attention to ATILA, they were great too. Cheers! Saludos a Tecnotichlan.
