Replacing involves getting someone out, then getting someone else in - so, Portnoy, half of the work being done already. Pig

The one I would like to be replaced is LaBrie. All the others sounded perfect for the band. I'm not so sure Rudess would be so easy to replace, but the band has already worked with another 2 keyboard players before him and it was alright (at least about half DT fans liked Moore better).

Labrie's running away with it, now there's a surprise.

I'm not going to vote, but to the 10 people who voted for Portnoy I'd like to ask: By whom?

It was a rhetorical question: The best drummer in the world can't be replaced... and certainly not easy.

Rudess, because have passed a lot of keyboardists and DT is going on. LaBrie is not the best singer but  is a very good front man for DT and I think is the balance in DT.

Fixed.

Plenty of drummers on Portnoy's level. Even MP himself admitted it in his last interview. He claimed the hardest part wouldn't be finding someone who has the chops he does because you could find a thousand others, but finding someone who's willing and capable of taking on all the other tasks in the band will be extremely difficult.

I'm not sure who'd be easiest but hardest would be Petrucci.

I could somehow deal with Portnoy, Rudess and Myung being replaced, so I choose Portnoy, because I'm fine with it at the moment. It's a huge surprise, but even though he's one of the greatest drummers of all time, Dream Theater has to move on without him.

Petrucci is my enormous influence, and it would be horrible if he decided to leave, but if there is a member of DT that I find almoast irreplaceable, it's actually James LaBrie. I've grown to love his voice, and I really enjoy his stage presence, he's such an amazing guy.

This thread is bad. People is voting for the one they dislike, not the one that could be easier to replace. I can't see a singer that could sing such a different range of styles and techniques in songs like Space-Dye Vest, Surrounded, Prophets of War, As I Am and The Count of Tuscanny, with many many more songs.

You can dislike his voice, but you should need three or four vocalists to cover all the different ranges of him...

I think Rudess is the one. Sure, no keyboardist can cover his skills, but just as Sherinian did, a new keyboard player could change a little bit the style...

Well, how can I answer that question? I'm not inclined to say that it's any of the intrumentalists, because I'm pretty sure they all contribute to the creative process. But, then again, LaBrie was picked because his voice felt right for DT, and it's the right voice for the job; skill isn't such an issue as personality here IMO. So, it's a difficult question.

Overall, though... it's probably James. I love him and all, but everyone else contributes a lot more material, as far as I know.

It doesn't matter Portnoy founded DT, any member out of progress and positive contribution must be out of a team. I'm very happy Portnoy leaves DT, I love DT and consider it's urgent to grow up the band. Big smile

This. I think Myung would be easiest to replace. DT's Bass has never stuck out as anything special for me.

Just an opinion, Myung is not only a great bassist is a very good musician because he plays for DT not for himself.
He can play 4,5 and 6 strings bass, fretless bass, stick and plays tapping, 3 fingers techniques, slapping and harmonics.
