If this has been done before, SORRY.

I omitted 1973 because it would have probably won and made things boring Tongue.

Please explain your votes, especially if it regards a year not specified here!!!!!

1973 Tongue

I vote 1971, which barely beats out 1970

First Utterance + Tago Mago + Meddle +Islands + Aqualung = nuff said

My favourite albums from all those bands

check out the poll http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=65115

if you omit 1973 means 1972 is gonna win. In my poll it was a tie 72 and 73

i voted for 1972 mainly because of the below list

ELP - Trilogy, Pictures at an Exhibition
Yes - Close to the Edge
Uriah Heep - Deamons and Wizards
Gnidrolog- Lady Lake
Jethro Tull - Thick As a Brick
Pink Floyd - Obscured by Clouds
Premiata Forneria Marconi - Storia Di Un Minuto, Per Un Amico
Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso - Debut, Darwin
Il Baletto Di Bronzo - Ys
Gentle Giant - Octopus, Three Friends
Genesis - Foxtrot
Deep Purple - Machine Head, Made in Japan
Really don't mind if you sit this one out.
My words but a whisper, your deafness a shout.

Gotta be 1970 for me, for all the little, impeccable gems released during that time.  Affinity, The Greatest Show On Earth, Aardvark, Curved Air, Bead Game, Cressida, Titus Groan, Aunt Mary, Birth Control, Caravan, Spirit...the list goes on and on and on.

1969
KING CRIMSON!!!!!!!!!!  In The Court Of The Crimson King!!! eclectic and symphonic prog rock owe a lot to this very important album...

by the way this is just my opinion.
if not 1969 then 1972 takes it no doubt about that.

I have analyzed my list of favourite '70-'75 albums some time ago and I expected 1972 to be the winner because it was the year of Close to the Edge and Foxtrot, but this year ended up in a tie with 1971 and 1973. My favourite year appeared to be 1975, the year of Wish You Were Here, The Snow GooseFish out of Water, 5čme Saison and Free Hand, to mention a few.

1970 -
I know CotCK started it, but ELP's debut literally changed my musical life forever.
That Yes' "Time and a Word", Gentle Giant, Magma, Supertramp debuts, and Let it Be were released that year only puts it way over the top for me.

Can't really vote - there have been gems and classics in each and every single year, so it is very difficult to choose one particular year.

I had some problem choosing between '96 and '71, but 71 won in the end so many great albums that year, some examples are: Meddle, Fragile, Nursery Cryme, Inner Mountain Flame and Pawn Hearts
