very tough one, and i will probably think of others after i'm done with this post.. Not really sure what the general notion of an epic is, so i include 1 song that is shorter than 10 minutes.
(1) Helmet of Gnats - High Street
(2) Second Life Syndrome - Riverside
(3) Ommadawn pt. 1 - Mike Oldfield
(4) the funeral portrait - Opeth
(5) Close to the Edge - Yes
(6) Battle of epping forest - Genesis
(7) Harvest Aorta - Ephemeral Sun
(8) A change of Seasons - Dream Theater
(9) Dogs - Pink Floyd
(10) Light of day, day of darkness - Green Carnation

Starless is the epic to end all epics, all without being the length of your average epic. That's the epicness of King Crimson for you. I've used the word epic too much and now it sounds odd.

I find it not just extensive, but coherent. If you listen to its progeny "Civilization Part 3" you'll understand what FZ had intended but wasn't able to produce when he was with the Mothers.

Epic songs, eh? I'll take that to mean 15+ minutes, and not including instrumental pieces. Here we go: 1. "Mei" by Echolyn 2. "Octavarium" by Dream Theater 3. "Close to the Edge" by Yes 4. "Dogs" by Pink Floyd 5. "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers" by VdGG 6. "The Whirlwind" by Transatlantic (assuming you consider it all one song) 7. "The Wide Open Sea" by Big Big Train 8. "Milliontown" by Frost* 9. "Supper's Ready" by Genesis 10. "At the End of the Day" by Spock's Beard

1. Xanadu - Rush (Unbelievable technique and ambience about this song, not to mention amazing lyrical content on top of flashing and brilliant instruments)
2. The Revealing Science of God - Yes (The album may be inconsistent, but its an amazing song)
3. Amboss - Ash Ra Tempel (Not in the sense of a normal epic, but psychedelic acid jamming could never be any better)
4. Assault and Battery/The Golden Void - Hawkwind (What a turely hypnotizing and other-wordly song by none other than the masters of the outer universe)
5. Bel Air - Can (An oriential jam that has true improv value and amazing rhythms and grooves)
6. Plague of the Light House Keeper - Van Der Graaf Generator (An extremely emotional and touching movement and piece of artwork by all means)
7.July Morning - Uriah Heep (Though not as percise as some of the above mentioned songs, its very well written and has incredibly well thought out structure)
8. The Apocolypse - Eloy (An inspirtational song that has an amazing groove to it)
9. Remember the Future (Both Parts) - Nektar (An amazing movement of emotion, technical ability and harmonies)
10. Echoes - Pink Floyd (Beautiful vocals accompanied by impedeing jams that never end)
In no particular order..:)

My own personal barometer for a prog "epic" registers it at over 15 minutes, so with that in mind:
1. Supper's Ready-Genesis 2. Close to the Edge-Yes 3. Dogs-Pink Floyd 4. Karn Evil 9-Emerson, Lake and Palmer 5. Cassandra Gemini-The Mars Volta 6. In Held 'Twas I-Procol Harum 7. Song of Scheherazade-Renaissance 8. Milliontown-Frost* 9. The Sky Moves Sideways, Part 1-Porcupine Tree 10. Octavarium-Dream Theater

I have too many to list, but I'm sure my top 30 is mainly Klaus Schulze, Edgar Froese, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and Tangerine Dream.
