`Dom - Edge Of Time' gets my vote amongst a stack of great albums!
I only discovered this one recently, and it's a beautifully spacey combination of early Floyd, perhaps the first Nektar album, and even a more cosmic version of the Vangelis `Dragon' album. Love the overwhelming psychedelic organs! An album lost in deep space!
Highly recommended!

^ I only discovered it recently too, I think on the "Krautrock Space" thread. It's a sweet little albumen.

Hey, HolyMoly, I totally agree - pity about the rather rubbish cover it has, though! Even a cliched outer-space/astronomy picture would have been better!
But it's become quite a favourite of mine in a very short amount of time!
Damn that `Embryo - Steig Aus' album came a close second in this poll for me, though!

I picked Steig Aus-man, l love that album too, John! It is my all time favorite Embryo recording, along with We Keep On. The band are really firing on all six cylinders on both of those records. |
I'm so glad Steig Aus got a vote. Wow we agree completely with Embryo as We Keep On and this one are my two favs as well.

I didn't think of The Green Journey as Die Grüne Reise and because of that I voted for Lucifer Rising (which also is a masterpiece and so is Edge of Time, Stieg Aus & 666). |
Hey i'm sorry guys i should have given the German title and i'll change that now. Man you've got almost the same top five as me with DOM in instead of CAN.

Jimmy Jackson is great on that Embryo album playing organ and mellotron.

I just listened to that Embryo album at work, and the bass playing is a knockout, especially on that first track! I detected a bit of a Santana vibe on that one too, without the all dominating electric guitar of that band!

Doug! No, not heard that one! I've only got `Steig Aus' and `Rocksession' (I think that's what it's called off the top of my head), and I love them both! Perhaps I should check out `We Keep On' next?! I assume all their albums are instrumental?

My friend, We Keep On is essential! There is a strong jazz rock vibe on that one that is totally awesome. I have not heard all of their recordings, but WKO has some vocals.

Good to see Eskaton get a deserved vote. That Etron Fou Leloublan's album is my favourite from them. Probably the most accessible and produced by Fred Frith and he adds guitar and violin too. I'm pretty sure it was Frith's "Speechless" album that Etron Fou Leloublans plays on.

I think it was Speechless, yeah. I was going to say Gravity, but that's Samla/The Muffins.

Big +1 on this rec. We Keep On is awesome.
One I don't hear mentioned a lot, but it's my favorite by Embryo, is "Embryo's Reise", from the late 70s. A real hot, diverse double album.

Yeah, EFL plays on side one of Speechless, that's my favorite side of Fred's music I've heard. I quite like the EFL album in your poll too. Real unusual band.

Thanks Doug and HolyMoly! I'll make a note and look into both those albums you recommended! I've had those other two I mentioned for a few years now, so I'm probably long overdue to add a couple more Embryo albums to my collection!

That's a good way to put it. It's almost like an irreverent or humerous way of looking at the apocalpse. Some have compared in that way to Jesus Christ Superstar. It's one of my favourite double albums too.

I've never seen/heard JCS. But yeah...I didn't expext it to be so fun and light but it works really well. And it's barely a double...maybe thats helps.

I love Aegian Sea myself, and when Irene Papas goes Meg Ryan on our ass with a hefty orgasm |
I think my favorite is The Four Horsemen. But theres gems all over (including the percussion/orgasm duel).

Yeah i didn't even know Etron Fou ... was on a Frith album until Holy Moly recommended Speechless a while back, and when i looked it up i was surprised to see them listed there. I do need to get that one eventually.
