Garry Puckett (of the Union Gap) had a great voice by the way. Wish he'd joined a prog band.

my first cd purchase, meaning me with my own
money going to the store and picking something up,
would be goldfinger's cover ep called "Darinn's
coconut ass". i still listen to it, even today. some of
their covers are really well done. they cover some
ska stuff (peter tosh, some other old people) along
with some other stuff (the cure, the who) it's a pretty
good ep.

The first single/album I remember getting with my own money would have to be Real Love by the Beatles. I was really into the Beatles in my youth (still am today), so what better way than to buy a Beatles single first!
Who here has seen the Beatles movie Help! or the Magical Mystery Tour? If you haven't you are missing movie magic.

I bought 6 albums at once i one of those buy 12 for a buck get 1 for full price deals, I split with my brother, but I knew nothing about music, because I was 6. Ijust bought 4 Marilyn Manson albums, I mother Earth, and a Wallflowers. Manson because I thought he looked cool, and the other two because my brother told me I should have.
I still like Marilyn Manson and even listen to the others once in a blue moon.

Fragile,
The only brothers I can suggest would be the Davies bros, of the Kinks. I would assume Ray played on Dave's solo hit "Death of a clown" somewhere, and the Kinks had several number ones with both brothers on them ("Waterloo sunset", "Lola", etc.).
Other possiblities, Paul and Barry Ryan, Mark & David Knopfler, Peter and Robin Starstedt
SV, you're dad just says he knows, get him to write it down and see if it matches with Fragile's answer.

I got my mom to buy me "Rock 'n' roll over" by KISS. I had this next door friend who was three years older than me and he was my biggest idol, and everything he liked I had to like That's the reason why I started supporting Leeds United too. Those were the days.........
