you miss my meaning. it is not just about this poll. Roman Bunka is in my opinion a guitar player that should be talked much more about. but no-one ever mentions him, though he is absolutely brilliant

Avoiding the most obvious ones (even though I do like them): Barre, Hillage, Belew, Akkerman, and, OK, Latimer, although he's pretty obvious.

I'll go with Phil Miller, Pye Hastings, Franco Mussida, Robert Fripp and Steve Hillage. And I'll give an outside nod to Michael Rother, who I would rother have than Steve Rothery. ;).
Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

Fripp for the soundscapes and those angular expressions. Love that he sits beside the drummer and not out front like most lead guitarists.
The record label I believe it was made Robert stand when they signed with them but after a few shows he went back to sitting and the very first show he did like that had none other than Jimmi Hendrix in the audience. Hendrix was apparently blown away seeing him live. Fripp's sister was at Hendrix table or beside it and heard all the praise. Fripp met Hendrix after the show and Hendrix shook his hand with his left telling Fripp it's closer to my heart. A lot of respect between the two.

I'm not really into "guitar virtuosos" or their speedy solos at all. But these guys mostly play in a way that places them within the music and not on top. Although quite profilic and highly skilled, I rarely feel that they forget that they are part of a group: Robert Fripp first. Also: David Gilmour, Andrew Latimer, Phil Miller and Steve Hackett. A super obvious list:) Love Franco Mussida too.

My actual favorite is Terje Rypdal though. Which goes against most of what I originally wrote.
