Thanks for a very interesting post, I really wasn't aware of the links you describe between the bands.
I've tried to get into VDGG over the years, I've really tried, but they're still on the outer for me.
Tangent are much more to my taste.
Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana.

VDGG is among my favorite bands ever, so that's the obvious choice.

Also, welcome to PA!Thumbs Up

VdGG and Tangent are two bands with certain relationship :
David Jackson (my favourite sax player) played in both bands
Andy Tillison is certainly admirer of Peter Hammill and his mighty Generator and these influences are certainly audible on Tangent's albums, both in vocal and instrumental department. Sometimes here and there, sometimes more often.

As a big fan of pH/VdGG (probably my the most favourite band of all times), I've tried to love The Tangent too. But I failed with every their release. Not they are bad, I count them as one of the better bands in today's modern symphonic prog, I like their perfect interplay between Tillison's keys and other instruments (mostly Theo Travis' winds). But mainly their vocal melodies I find far less interesting compared to VdGG, the emotional impact of The Tangent never reached the heights of pH/VdGG for me.

So, I'm just more curious if The Tangent are interesting for fans of VdGG. I don't expect ordinary poll VdGG vs. Tangent to be too dramatic.

Many thanks for your comments.
