Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, AIC and The Melvins are all great.

But my favorite is undeniably Nirvana, they were my favrorite band at one point, and are still one of my favorite bands. They may not have been that innovative musically, being influenced mostly by hardcore punk and bands like The Melvins and Pixies. But they did help make alternative rock more popular and because of them older alternative bands like REM and Sonic Youth were gaining a more mainstream following. And criticize Cobains guitar skills all you want, the guy knew how to write a song, and had some great riffs and hooks up his sleeve.

I do hate it when people call them completely unoriginal, god forbid a band has influences.

I love the more blatantly commercial side of grunge with Stone temple Pilots.... i love Alice In chains (mostly the Dirt and the leg-less dog album...), Soundgarden (mostly their last and a little of superunknown and badmotorfinger), Nirvana's nevermind, Pearl Jam TEN and just a little of  VS (the rest are a disaster)... So yes, I like commercial grunge.

I agree, but that I don't remember 1990s stoner rock ever becoming as popular as grunge. With the exception of a couple of bands, of course, but maybe things are different where you live?

Not quite "around the same" - grunge seems just to have mellowed out into much more generic mope rock, but stoner rock's still going on strong! Evil%20Smile
