That last time I listened to Playing the Fool, which was recently, I was not into it but I used to like it. Maybe I just was in the wrong mood. When I joined this site Gentle Giant may have been my favourite band (maybe along with PFM and Le Orme) but I have not listened to the band much in many years. Acquiring the Taste and Three Friends especially seem to keep an important place in my heart, and the debut.

Gentle Giant:

1. (S) Acquiring The Taste (1971, listened extensively) [SPO]
2. (S) Three Friends (1972, listened extensively) [SPO]
3. (S) Gentle Giant (1970, listened extensively) [SPO]
4. (A) Octopus (1972, listened extensively) [SPO]
5. (A) In a Glass House (1973, listened extensively) [SPO]
6. (B) The Power & The Glory (1974, listened extensively) [SPO]
7. (B) Free Hand (1975, listened extensively) [SPO]
8. (B) Interview (1976, listened extensively) [SPO]
9. (B) Playing The Fool - The Official Live (Live, 1977, listened often)
10. (B) King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents (Live, 1998, listened often) [AP Prog]
11. (C) The Missing Piece (1977, several listens) [SPO]
12. (E) Civilian (1980, several listens) [SPO]
13. (E) Giant For a Day (1978, several listens)

TPATG is the only GG album that totally clicks with me. My feeling is that Kerry was the greatest musician in the band and as an ELP fan I find more favour with those later 'harder soudning' albums before they go 'new wave' and leave the prog behind. Early albums just feel a bit too 'loose' for my taste.

The top ten especially have all got a lot of plays.

Did you add the familiarity level? It should be displayed in the export even if you do not rate the releases. It helps a lot when interpreting your list, and I have the rule of thumb that when someone has listened to a release extensively it is implicitly in the A tier (or above). Why else would you listen to it that much?

Will look into providing more export options that make it more obvious that your list should be interpreted as "unranked".

Hi,

Mike, do you have a Dummies Guide for using that cover thing? 4k+ listing ... dang ... I'll never find AD2 looking through each page!

I have the Album Cover Book, and the Hipgnosis Album Covers Book ... and I probably would list at least 10 of those right off the bat!

AD2's Dance of the Lemmings is the winner for me, though, specially the inside fold out for the LP ... on the cockpit of a flying ... something! But the zipped up lips is a close second ... for an album that has beautiful vocal harmonies ... !!!

You search for the releases in the "Add release by name" input field on the poll page I linked to. Searching for "Duul" will give you all Amon Düül releases, searching for "Yeti" (for example) gives you exactly the Yeti release. Then you just click the round "+" icon in the search result to add the release to your list. When done, follow the instructions below the list to export it as forum code.
