Topic: The final post Posted: September 20 2005 at 15:31 |
humm i'm still hesitating... something that is not too looong => i don't want my family to get bored during my funeral It's quite hard for me to choose as I really love sad songs, and i want a sad song for my funeral.
one for the lyrics (the music is also beautiful):
Wilco : How To Fight Loneliness
the rest for the music
A Silver Mt Zion : The Triumph Of Our Tired Eyes
Grandaddy : So You'll aim toward the sky
The Smashing Pumpkins : Blank Page
I know I had other ideas, but right now I can't remember.

This was done before. I had 2 choices there but now I remember only one. This is "Starless" by King crimson. probably my all time favorite song and it will end the ceremony very quickly.
Maybe "Goodbye cruel world" ? that will be funny ! Or "The grand parade of lifeless packaging"

At my funeral I'd like Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" to be played.
Just kidding! Or maybe "Wake Me Up When September Ends," because that would be cool to wake up after I die.
I can't believe I know any Green Day songs. Yuck!

Since I made the delusional old farts thread I think it's only fair I comment on this thread.
I have a rather sick sense of humor so it would be quite typical of me to insist that Trout Mask Replica be played in its entirety at my funeral, but I haven't given the matter any real thought.

As a side line to this topic, what song do you reckon would be most likely to wake the dead?
Something from Meshuggah or Sleepy Time Gorilla Museum perhaps.

What an interesting topic.
I'm in total alignment with Ed_The_Dead: Anathema's "One Last Goodbye" would be the ultimate way to sail on out of life...but then again, it's so incredibly moving and sad that I can hardly listen to it without breaking down while I'm healthy, so maybe I would opt for something just slightly less emotionally intense, like "Afterglow" by Genesis. Yeah, that's the one.
Or maybe Gorguts' 'Obscura' really really freaking loud!...might provide some shock therapy and keep that hear pumping a few more precious years...

Id say the spirit carries on because of its mesage, but its a little too corney.
So im gonna go with Shine on you crazy diamond if i end up doing something amazing and productive with my life, and if i become a delusional old fart who sits on the cumputer in the basement of my parents house all day posting on this website for the rest of my life...I will play "who wants to live forever?" by Queen

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

I hope none. I don't want a funeral ceremony.

Did you want to know what songs we were planning for the funeral ceremony?
|
Yes |
I'm pretty sure someone has done this a little while back, however, it
is an interesting concept. I was thinking about his some time ago and
while I could attempt a list now, I believe it would change as I think
there will be some mind blowing music in the future as well.
Well heres my attempt at the prog songs I can think of at the moment.
Yes - Heart of the Sunrise and In the Presence of
KC - Walking on air
(maybe Opeths - Atonement but it might be a bit heavy)
then
Marillion - Fantastic place
and finish with
Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere but not here
like I mean, they may as well have a mini concert seeing as how they turned up for the club sandwiches and all.

That's a damn fine choice- I can just imagine Mick Box's chord progressions echoing around them hallowed halls

Interesting choice of words in view of the topic.
Close to prog: Burning bridges by Japan. "It's all behind me now, the work is done."

I am not afraid of that at all. I listen to jazz, classical and ethnic
music too. so there is a lot I can listen to. and I don't care at all
what kind of new crap the pop industry will come up with. anything that
will be really new and interesting will be underground for about half a
year; then the music business will take over, and it will no longer be
interesting. sad but true
