Sorry, maybe I came off rude. I don't think there's anything wrong with limiting the options to these, as these are the most progressive and most critically acclaimed of the jazz-fusion bands, at least from the 70s. I was only bugging about ADM, because he is not a jazz guitarist. This poll is fine otherwise.
No, that was fine. I appreciate the feedback. About your concern, I don't really have the musical background to distinguish who is or who isn't a jazz guitarist so I'll take it from you that ADM isn't. But the thing is that he is listed on the site as a "Jazz Rock/Fusion/Progressive Rock artist." If he's categorized as such by the site, then I'll include him. I always go by the site and don't really argue with their categorizations. That's just how I do it. Moreover, it would be unfair to the one person that voted for him if I deleted him from the list now. But I understand where you're coming from.
Al Di Meola made about 3-4 real jazz-fusion albums, most of them from the late 70s, early 80s. He was also part of RTF which was a jazz-fusion band as well. Al also guests on some other albums. Yes, it's true that he worked with many jazz musicians, and definitely has his place when talking about jazz-fusion.
I was specifically talking about his actual playing style, which is not rooted in jazz, but more like flamenco or some other type of Spanish guitar style; and rock/shred style. So what I meant was, if you're going to include Al DiMeola, (and I saw you had Holdsworth in there), at least include another artist like Chick Corea or someone who plays fusion, but also is a jazz player. Jeff Beck isn't a jazz musician either, but he made 2 of the best 70s jazz-rock albums IMO.

Very hard choice, since they all wrote great music and all have great albums of the genre. I will go for Miles Davis though, since I consider him the master of all these great musicians.

My gut instinct was to vote for Herbie Hancock or Return to Forever, but I decided on Miles Davis after thinking about it for a minute.
**EDIT** Why you have Al Di Meola on the list, and not someone else like Chick Corea, Jan Hammer, or Stanley Clarke confuses me. Al Di Meola is not even a jazz guitarist. Sure he has a few jazz-fusion records, but he does not actually "play" jazz

Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock followed by Weather Report (for I Sing the Body Electric in particular).
A couple of faves in PA's JRF category but not on the list are Eddie Henderson and Julian Priester.
For greatest, I will go with Miles Davis even if Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi group works are so loved by me.
Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.
A tie between Mahavishnu and RtF. What I don't like about Mahavishnu though is that a lot of there sound is constant improvised "shred" noodling which really doesn't appeal to me. Then again they also have some great melodic stuff too, and there are no other fusion albums that can even compare to The Inner Mounting Flame and Birds Of Fire so my vote goes to Mahavishnu.
