Awkward Situations Because of Prog?

Not really, I've acquainted one of my friends with Jethro Tull (although admittedly that's on the more accessible side of prog) and I know a bunch of people who are Opeth fans. Although, when people ask me what my favourite band is, they won't have heard of King Crimson. That isn't really "awkward" though.

I also tried introducing a girl to Peter Hammill, that was interesting...

Probobly the easiest way to get someone into prog is to start on the heavy-prog side, with stuff like Rush or Uriah Heep.

I've done the same, but with Magma.  I don't know what I was thinking (or smoking, perhaps).  Needless to say, it didn't turn out too well.  And the last "date" I went on (so long ago ) involved the girl coming to my house, all I can say is I wish I took a picture of the look on her face when she saw my record player and tons of cds/vinyls.

It wasn't a romantic situation, just me being random.  These are different people

and besides, if the girl actually liked Magma (what are the chances?) it would really turn me on

most of my  friends hate prog .i remember when i get married the DJ ask my if i   want to to put an album when we were having dinner and i check all the staff he had and i found nothing so i put  kc red [my brother had it in his car ]  .i put  it and everybody get kind like a weird  look at me and from out of nowhere this guy came to me and said that he loves prog and we were taking about music and after couple of hours i ask the guy .who are you ? and he said ''i live two blocks  from here, i just passed by and i heard ''starless '' an i couldn't resist to get in''.now he is a good friend of my life like prog  is a awkward situation ............

Hell the whole post-rock scene grew out of indie, so pease don't insult it.

Besides, what's wrong with a little pretentiousness in music? Both genres are amazing and diverse. You can't write either off.
Also, I know many indie/prog fans that don't smoke, myself being one of them.
