I am absolutely shocked and devestated by his death, awful day for Prog rock fans and Pink Floyd fans. Truly a pioneer and one of the best keyboard players I have ever heard. RIP Rick shine on, sad loss.

I want to add my most shocked, heartfelt condolences. I agree with others that his contribution - not only to Floyd, but to psychedelic rock keyboard in general - cannot be overestimated. He was a true pioneer, and, along with Michael Pindar and a couple of others, absolutely "defined" the keyboard sound of prog rock for decades.
As an aside, I was priviliged to have met Rick some years ago, and had dinner with him, Chris Squire and Peter Grant. Rick was not simply a wildly influential keyboardist, he was also a truly charming, funny and humble man. Although I have always cherished my "celeb" memories, this one now feels even more haunting and powerful.
We will miss you, Rick. Thanks for the decades of amazing music.
Peace.

Off to play that "Great Gig in the Sky" . I am wailing already, in justified appreciation. Au revoir !

I have no words.
A page in lives of several generations seems to be closed. Almost closed, music stays with us till the rest of our days.

Thank you for your music. You always seemed so gentle and intelligent. Without you Pink Floyd would have been so different.
Good bye.

Many keyboardists could play his parts, yet he was the only one to write such music, which seemed humble, yet every tone spoke volumes. This day really matches the end of Pink Floyd, without him they are just David Gilmour, Roger Waters and Nick Mason in various variants of power.
Astronomy domines for Rick now.

His musical contributions were at times beautiful, at times spacy, and at times wonderfully eerie (his early-career psychedelic organ playing--which is also underrated). His peaceful vocals (along with David's) created the warm comfort that Pink Floyd would cast upon its listeners. He also seemed like an extremely humble, down-to-earth guy (as others have already mentioned).
His influence and music will surely live on!

It's a sad day indeed. I always hoped that one day I'd get to see the mightly Floyd live, and in the back of my mind I knew it would happen. I guess now it never will...
