How do I get my GF into prog?

Actually, that works with me. I tend to enjoy VdGG more when the lyrics are in front of me. Same with Marillion.

The first thing to do is get in touch with one of the prog labels (Musea and Inside Out come to mind first, but depending what she's doing AltRock or Cuneiform might work better) and show them her work. If they like it, accept the record contract offer, record her record, and get it out into the world. Next, post some samples and a description of her work in the "suggest new bands" section. The genre teams will handle it from there!

Been there, understand that. I suggest trying not to take your musical tastes so seriously. Whenever someone says that its crap, I think, "Well maybe it it is, but I enjoy it, so who cares if its crap or not?" and go back to my Can, Henry Cow, Zappa, etc. Trust me, it makes you a much happier person.
