IMO there are two excellent songs on MLR - 'Sorrow' and 'Yet Another Movie'.
Two more decent tracks - 'Learning to Fly' and 'One Slip'.
The rest of the album being pretty much filler.

Never understood the hate for "Dogs of War'. Your two favs are mine too but I like this album.

A Floyd song to hate would be 'Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict'.

For Genesis it would be 'Anything She Does'. 'Whodunnit' is fine, it just should have been shorter

I actually love 'Several Species...' as it's so off the wall and probably the most avant-garde thing the Floyd ever did. I find Roger's section on the studio album of Ummagumna to be the most listenable/bearable. 'Grantchester Meadows' being the stand out track.

I don't understand much why there would be hate for Dogs of War. Not nearly my favorite track from the band, but I find it enjoyable enough. I'm not really fond of Several Species, though... I mean, there's hardly any melody to love on it. Overall, I'm not so fond of his side, I find Granchester Meadows too flat and soft (I much prefer Cirrus Minor as a song featuring birds). Mason's side, well, there's not much on it either, and I guess that was foreseeable. But I do love the Narrow Way, specially part 3, and parts 1 and 4 of Sysyphus.

On the Turning Away is good, and even better live on DSOT.

Agreed, OTTA is pretty decent too.

My two favorites from Momentary Lapse are On the Turning Away and Yet Another Movie... though both I love much better live from Delicate Sound of Thunder. ItTA from the longer remixed version, and YaM from the original version. As for Sorrow, it was never my favorite, but that I got to like better on the remixed studio version. I find that this album I have favorite versions from all songs from all four original and remixed versions of Momentary Lapse and Delicate Sound.

Merci is pretty terrible, unlistenable album.

I disagree. It has Eliphas Levi, which is awesome and it's around 11 min of the album. And I think Otis is fun and funky. But it is admittedly different than a lot of their work. It definitely has a couple "meh" tracks, I'll admit.

Just my opinion. I don't like the album.

To each their own.

I really like Merci, even the Ooh ooh baby "Call From the Dark" song (I do prefer the Offering "Love in the Darkness" version) which makes me smile. I think "Elephas Levi" excellent, and find "The Night We Died" beautiful (like it better live, still). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJN1Xe7dNfE
Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

There are a few good songs on that album.

true, I just meant the title track. I have that album though I left it at my parents lake home along with Soundgarden's Down on the upside so that's all Id have to listen to when I drove their old jeep grand cherokee around when visiting, which was always like a trip back into time anyways.

I thought so, but was still not sure. The song is called (after all) "I Can't Dance".

Lol my mind just doesnt want to go to that dark place... I have full audio/visual recall so whenever I see that title a little clip of the music video plays.   All that said that song is by no means the worst thing Ive ever heard and doesnt make my top 10 list of most hated songs ever. Im not gonna list them because then I get to experience that personal hell. Instead Im gonna think about the Lamb Lies down on Broadway (live from the 1974/75 movie)
Sjå, my first album in 25+ years is out now: https://jeffjahn.bandcamp.com/album/sj   I am told its quite original

*Fun random fact, my GF's creative writing teacher in HS was Kim Thayil's mom.

Familiarity breeds contempt... the only solo PC song that I actually detest is Sussudio. Wretched.

Now that's crazy talk. [/QUOTE]

One of my favorite songs... doesnt hurt that I was listening to it when I hit a patch of black ice coming down off Mt Shasta into Oregon when I moved here 26 years ago. Excellent song and since I guess Im defending that song this week Id say no vessel would use a sea chanty that constantly shifts between 4/4, 7/8 and 3/4. But if I get a crew together on such a sailing vessel I think Id put a call on this site.

I like that Genesis song but it doesn't belong on that album imo.
