I do want to get this one, of course. However, what's wrong with artists? It seems they themselves want to push us to buying digital instead, with the prices they have been putting for several albums. $80 the double LP? and the CD DVD also very expensive... fortunatley in this case the single CD seems to have a right price, according to previous posts. But in general artists seem to be pushing it for those of us who remain loyal at wanting to buy physical.

I purchased the digital download because this was released earlier than the physical CD, and I wanted to hear the new album as soon as possible. The price for the download was very reasonable, but it does annoy me a bit that if I would decide to get the physical CD release later I would have to pay for the same album twice. Still, I know I'm supporting one of my favourite artists.

^ I think that it's much of a label's decision than an artist's one
So don’t evade the surgeon’s blade
Cos the answer could be in your mind
Maybe one cut and we’ll find
We’re just a wavelength behind

But we are entwined

And I know what you need

Vinyl is just expensive, period. I get it, if it's 180-gram vinyl. It IS going to sound better than the records pressed a few decades ago. But vinyl is going to remain expensive so long as it's fetishized.

Music Glue made various packages available. All but one come with Rick's autograph. And the price difference for a jewel case CD without Rick's autograph was negligible.

Never look on Amazon, Richard! LOL

I like to add to my cloud music player if possible so that is always my first port of call. I have Prime membership and get free delivery so 90% of the time its cheaper for me. However I will occasionally buy from specialist suppliers like Burning Shed, Progrock.co.uk and CD services who are pretty decent (but charge me shipping costs!).

Email from Music Glue relates that Red Planet (CD only) has been dispatched today, 30 June 2020, but the the DVD will wait because they weren't able to shoot the rest of the footage due to the pandemic lockdown.

The DVD will be sent later. At the moment they only have 15 minutes of content completed for it.

Yeah, I read something about that on Wakeman's website: https://www.rwcc.com/notices/theredplanet.php#trpfaq

What's on the DVD?
The high res version of the album plus expanded versions of footage shown online, but because of COVID, the last parts of the footage will be shot at the space centre and include as many fans as possible. Production will start immediately after the event and the DVD will be sent out to all purchasers.

Records are not that expensive, Ricky is asking more than dbl the price for a 2-LP gatefold....ridiculous, he should layoff the crank. LOL
I just pre-ordered the new Tangent dbl LP for $27.00 including CD.
Thickness of the record does not contribute to the SQ, that comes from the mix, mastering and the cutting process. I have 70s records on 100-120g weight that sound brilliant, it's because the engineers then were educated and knew what to do to make a recording sound amazing. 180g just gives you a more flat/stable record.

The Tangent is selling their 2LP/CD for $27 and I guarantee you they're not making much money from that. Wink

Rick Wakeman and Music Glue made The Red Planet available through various packages that were all priced differently. Not everyone buys vinyl. New single LPs sell at an average of $25-30.

More flat/stable does contribute to better playback. But that matters little to me. I don't buy records. You can debate vinyl production with my buddy Dave. That's all he buys. He got rid of all his CDs. LOL

Playback is different than SQ, I have warped records that still sound excellent, what you get with a severe warp is wow (pitch variations), but it can still have excellent dynamics and resolution.
I don't need to debate records, play what you like and enjoy the music....but records rule!! Big smile. Whether a band or label is making money is not my concern, that's their business, my concern is paying for my music.

Today's prices for records is inline with the price back in the 70's, taking into account inflation...as everything else. I was paying $15-$18 for CDs in the 80s when they first came out, that was highway robbery!!

Hi,

I am so sorry that the DVD has not been included in this package. This is due to the lockdown and COVID-19. Myself and Rob Ayling were faced with the prospect of using the footage which was shot before the Lockdown, which would have resulted in approximately a 15 min DVD or waiting until after the launch event where we plan to over an hour worth of footage and lots more contributions from the other musicians, fans as well as behinds the scenes footage etc. We made the decision it was better to go with a far superior DVD, than to short change you with an inferior one and just blame it on COVID-19.

From a practical point of view, Rob and his team will be mailing the DVDs out as soon as they come back from the pressing plant.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your support and I hope you enjoy my latest album, The Red Planet.

I got this as well, happy to wait but they must have known a while ago that the DVD wasn't going to be ready in time.
