I voted Anekdoten's `Nucelus' - I love that noisy beast! Not my favourite from them (hello `A Time of Day'), and Nick's vocals were still a little flat back then - something the band really turned around on later albums, but there's a ton of great stuff on there!
I expect Marillion might win this with `Afraid of Sunlight', which is still one of my favourite H-led albums. Some very nice imagery in the lyrics and a very moving and sympathetic vocal from Hogarth too. I kind of like Spock's `The Light', but it's easily my least favourite album by the Neal-led version of the band. A little too rough around the edges, but so much potential and talent about to emerge with greatness from the next album onwards. I have very romantic and nostalgic memories of PTree's `Sky Moves Sideways'. When I got the original version soon after it came out, I loved the blend of dancy drumbeats, new age drifting spacey instrumentals and wild guitar soloing. That re-release with the live drums added (don't worry, I won't start ranting about that whole thing again! ![]() ![]() |

Went with White Willow-Ignis Fatuus but could also have gone with PT.

We are missing a real gem of an album in ARENA's SONGS FROM THE LIONS CAGE.
That would be my vote. Since its not on the poll I think I'll choose Spocks beard, but I really didn't love that album; in fact I gotta say 1995 wasn't the best year for music. |

My fav from that year is probably Disco Volante. Honeyelk...didn't they just release like two short albums in 1979 or something? Voted Happy Family.

I will have to go with PT but "Edges of Twilight" is a very close second.

I would have added Uz Jsme Doma - Fairytales From Needland and KC - Thrak. Though I'd probably still have voted for Miriodor

Yup, really good to read you again. ![]() The Gnosis site rates Pangee's sole album as the best of 1995. It really never blew me away like I thought it would although it's a 4 star record for sure. Three long instrumental tracks make up that one..

It's interesting how controversial this album seems to be. Jude 1111 and Octopus-4 dislike it while Lazland and Wanorak rate it highly. Maybe because they seem to be having too much fun on this one after the serious "Brave" album. It's in my top three of fav Hogarth era Marillion albums and probably my favourite of those.

I like the track Afraid of Sunlight and a few others over the years ...but post Fish Marillion has always seemed a bit slow moving and a bit boring to me. I honestly don't know what the fascination is with the later marillion cd's. |

I was noticing this yesterday that the original album was released in 1979 then it was re-issued with bonus tracks and a new cover and title in 1995. Seems to me only the original one should be listed then the alternative cover and bonus tracks shown, but this happens on here all the time when albums are re-mixed. IQ's Tales Of The Lush Attic for example has a seperate entry for the just released remixed version of their debut. Not sure why that is though.

The two Anekdoten records you mentioned were the hardest of all their albums for me to get into. For different reasons of course. I still like Gravity the best. Yup Afraid Of Sunlight is right at the top of my fav Hogarth era albums too. I'd add Marbles and Seasons End as my top three Hogarth led albums. I'd take The Light over any post-Neal as well as a couple of other Neal-led Beard albums(Day For Night & Snow). Wow that's so cool that you knew PT back in the nineties. I think The Sky Moves Sideways was Mikael Akerfeldt's first PT album and he said from that point on he bought each new PT album as soon as they were released.

From this list, probably Nucleus. Great album, with the obvious Pork Tree album not far behind it...

I went for the majority vote. I have the double cd version and that alternative version of the title track is incredible. I love the 90s dance IDM electronics Steven used. Music for the mind that still lets you shake dat thang!

Ok, first vote for Xaal. Pangee is another cool jam that is often overlooked.
