You might like this Micky, it's Madder Mortem's The Purest Strain from the When Dream and Day Unite EP, one of only two songs they did in that swing metal style of DSO, but not as crazy. Saddly the other song, Jitterheart, doesnt seem to be on Youtube.

Embedded video's not working for me so here's a link.

loved it btw!!!!   I just relistened to it.  It took all of 4 seconds to tell I would LOL

putting them on my shopping list. Thanks for the head's up

No problem.Thumbs Up

Like I said, it's one of only two songs they did in that style, both from the same EP. If you want to try out their albums, I'd recommend Deadlands, particularly the 2009 re-release as it has a couple of cool extra tracks, as it's their best album.

I'll put that on order..  I'm not against metal. In fact I love it but yes I do have strong attractiion to 'swing metal'. A couple is better than none and suppose I would find things to like in other songs. As long as Jame LaBrie and the others from DT didn't guest spot on those other tracks LOL

Nothing to fear on that score, Agnette Kirksvaarg's pipes would blow Labrie out of the studio!

Camel, but I was impressed with the samples I heard from DSO. Their way of mixing genres reminds me of Major Parkinson a bit. Quite nice. Will definitely check their albums out closer sometime.

while a win vs. Camel was perhaps a bit much to hope for, the power of the bobbleheads is indeed still powerful on this forum.  DSO were picked to be in the contest for a couple of different reason, it is a favorite of some of the collabs here, one song converted 4 of us (all of very different tastes and perferences)  all at the same time and place, and we felt was a great representative of modern progressive rock(metal) and we felt even perhaps in defeat a few might hopefully discover them.

They really are a helluva group and one that even non prog-metal fans might really like.
So, are you going to tell us the name of the song that did the trick, or are we going to have to search through their discography ourselves to find the magic song, and, if that's the case, is the real reason for you not telling us the name of the song really just a clever way of attempting to get us hooked on the band? Wink

damnit. I've been called out LOL Time to sink my tattered reputation ever further haha.

The reason why I didn't specifically mention the song was I ... simply don't rememberLOL Help me Ian, HT, Raff!  I was ..slightly.. over lubricated and hearing this song over the PA was like a bolt of lightening to the head, you know Act of God kind of revelation but the actual details.. like which song it actually was they played over the PA that day.. I really don't remember.Embarrassed

I'm sure Raff will remember, she always has been the brains of the two of us. She is the ice to my fire I suppose.  She really forgets nothing.  I just remember it was the wildest craziest and neatest thing I had heard .. like ever... it was a zap to the head for sure.

I'll ask her when she gets home. Thumbs Up

It wouldn't surprise me if it was Balrog Boogie to be honest, the opener from Butchers Ballroom, there's something very immediate and attention grabbing about that song that kind of encapsulates DSO.

I'd be willing to bet it was this.

Yeah, I listened to that yesterday, as part of my DSO sampling. A really nice track, if I remember correctly. I'll check it out again tomorrow, when, hopefully, my internet connection isn't acting up like it is right now. A lot of buffering required on YT and other sites that shows videos (no, not porn sites LOL).

Camel.

I would prefer uneXpect over DSO, actually. Their style is somewhat similar, but uneXpect are way more eclectic and artful, methinks (although they might seem too chaotic for someone).
This night wounds time.
