It's not very progressive, but I have to say Within You Without by the Beatles. It changed my entire perception of spirituality. And introduced me to sitar, which is cool.Smile

Mmm...spiritual eh ? Well as daft as this sounds:

'Golden Hair' and 'Terrapin' by Syd Barrett give me a flock of goosebumps every time - if God was singing while vacuuming, he might sound like this

'Groon' by King Crimson on the Earthbound album - the last few seconds of the record with just Fripp's guitar always make me shiver with other worldly delight

'Musical Box' by Genesis when Gabriel sings 'Why don't you touch me etc' always makes me think that divine providence might actually exist somewhere

'Time' by Pink Floyd has lyrics that bypass all conventional intellectual barriers and makes me weep openly

Nothing from ROXY MUSIC again? very disapointed!!!

Almost everything from VIVA ROXY Heartis uplifting to me and goose bumps and all ( in every home, pyjamarama, Chance meeting and all the others)

I guess I need to explain: I started the Roxy fascination 3 weeks BEFORE the debut was released to the public in 1972 through a friend who picked up promo copies at EG records. I consider Roxy a seperate entity from my prog adoration because Roxy is an EXTREMELY personal relationship that would be hard for me to briefly explain. I wrote Ferry a recent letter explaining that synergy with his craft and I am leery even to review any Roxy album because of the emotions involved. I never mix my pleasure with my pain (whip whip) hahaha

A bit cheesy but Dream Theater's 'The Spirit carries on' uplifts me

And the guitar solo on 'Firth of Fifth' is divine...

My favorites are:

Two extremely spiritual (and uplifting for me) albums:

Igor Wakhevitch - Docteur Faust
Igor Wakhevitch - Hathor

Some nice tracks:

Pentangle - Lyke Wake Dirge
Renaissance - Cold is being
Woven Hand - Down in Yon Forest

And of course all of Magma.

In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye
But don't believe in me

For me, at least, the songs that put me waaaaay out there are "Ghetto Raga" by Third Ear Band and "Mysterious Semblance At The Strand Of Nightmares" by Tangerine Dream.

more threads like this Dr. Prog.. and you might find people dropping the troll moniker that seems to follow you.

Nice thread.

For me.. a very spirirtual person.. probably much more than I let on. But Raff would be the first to say that the person I am here isn't exactly the real me.    That said...  can't really thing of an overtly spiritual song that comes to mind.  Now there have been songs .. or sections that have been nothing short of spiritual or religious experiences.

I listen to Battlato's Sequenze e Frequenze and I do no lie to you... it is on with a quasi religious experience... it still has that effect.. no matter how much I over play that album.

probably more others... but would have to think about them.. but the Battiato one is that jumps to mind.  I do highly recommend Sulle Corde di Aries to anyone willing to try something a bit different.  A fabulous album.. and putting it on again as a matter of fact.  It isn't my avatar for anything hahha.

Taking the title of the thread rather more literally than was intended - Quintessence were surely the finest spiritual prog rock band.

The album "Self" is a magnificent piece of work.  I rate Vishnu Narain in particular as the best piece of religious based music i have heard, even though i don't share that particular religious conviction.

Regardless of what view you have of religion, the musical virtuosity of the band was incredible.

"Cradle to the Grave" by Neal Morse on "One."  (Plus anything by Iona.)

I would vote for The Flight of the Moorglade -- Jon Anderson.
