Yeah, this one.

I'll also second 'A Visit To Newport Hospital', as well as Steve Hillage's Dervish Riff that appears in the latter half of 'Solar Musick Suite'.

Heat of the Moment is a great song!

As for Owner of a Lonely Heart, it's a fantastic riff at the beginning, then it all goes wrong.Cry

When it comes to writing a great riff, Hawkwind are hard to beat:

Master of the Universe
Brainstorm
You Shouldn't Do That
Lord of Light
Time We Left
Magnu

the repeated dadah constitutes a falling small second that is repeated over and over again. 2 4ths notes, followed by a 4th pause, the beginning of the riff is an almost chromatic figure consisting of 6 8ths notes. is that more descriptive?

Just a thought. If Ghost Rider would reply to this thread, would that be then construed as  "Riff-Raff"   LOL

Hey AB , your Hawkwind rant is dead on. The are the RIFF masters of the Universe! I would add Hassan-I Sabha, Spririt of the Age and the Golden Void to your list . (Time we left, whooo, no kidding!)LOL

Like Antonio Vivaldi, Hawkwind wrote one really great riff -- 500 times.

that's what Stravinsky said about Vivaldi's concerts, and he was way off the mark

What You're Doing - RUSH
Larks' Tongues part I & II and the end of Lament are three amazing riffs from the genious mind of Fripp
Also the main riff in Lemmings is an unforgetable Van Der Graaf riff
