I'm not sure if this would be a good thing or bad thing but I was thinking that in the forums that it might be a good idea to include the users gender under their avatar.  I realize that this information is available by looking at the member's profile but that isn't as readily available.  Most of the time I think most of us assume that we are talking to a dude, but when the dude turns out to be a dudette it's not cool when you were previously addressing them as a dude.  So my proposal is to add male or female under the user's avatar, or more creatively dude or dudette; or progger or proggerette?  Any thoughts on this?

Personally I think it's enough of a sausage fest around here that when a woman walks in we'll notice. Of course - I just screwed this up in another thread which probably gave you the idea, but they'll usually correct you pretty fast . I think it would be simply depressing to look down a long thread to see "male-male-male-male-male-male-male", but I'm just mostly indifferent.

That is part of it but, she'll probably have to spend 50 posts correcting us neanderthals that she is not a dude.  And even the best known women on the site still get mistaken for dudes by new members.

LOLLOLLOL

Seriously, though, it does still happen to me to be mistaken for a dude... You see, "Raff" is not particularly gender-specific, so I am not surprised people don't immediately recognise I am a ladyWink.

LOL

Good Lord! You just ruined my day and my night. Now, I'm feeling so depressed: no woman to share my taste for R.I.O., free jazz, zheul and other horrid musics...

^ Confused There are at least two regular female posters on the forum who fit that description so there must be plenty more out there somewhere.

I don't know why, but it reminds me of the final scene of Some Like It Hot - only with genders reversedLOL...

That thought crossed my mind and that was the "bad idea" part of my idea.  It just seems that 3 or 4 times in the last month we have had a lady in our presence mistaken for a dude, and that just seems ungentlemanly of us.

^ I agree - but if any one's going to post a gender-specific remark they really ought to do their homework and at least check the profile first. However, the gender tag is optional in the profile.

if we do that we should add gender orientation and sexual orientation too.
