Seriously though, there's plenty of rock in ELP -- just ask any classical purist. They despised ELP for daring to "pollute" the classics with rock!Stern Smile

^ By this point, these prog wunderkindern had lost their vaunted pre-pubescent progressive edge -- a decidedly uninspired, lacklustre effort!

The glory days of this V prog magnum opus (here seen in a rare Japanese edition) were far behind.

I'll go with IQ - dark matter!

imagine: with 4 stars, it is stil my least favorite IQ album!

i like so much the trilogy ever-subterranea-7th house, that dark matter globally leaves me pretty unsatisfied. thus, tetralogy does not apply here.

Youdon't like "paper Blood" at all ??? It's a killer-track... well, but not really "prog"...

Black Moon, Paper Blood, Farewell To Arms, Close To Home are very good tracks imo. The album is not on the same level as most of their 70's output but it's not that bad(the only awfull thing on the album is the triggered snare-drum sound).

Ever want a really bad impression: In The Hot Seat, well that's the most awfull album'I've heard in my life....

The only reason for ELP to reunite is to record somethin' better than In The Hot Seat(because otherwise it'd be their last studio-album......cant't be).

Hmm ...  A number of candidates spring to mind. Supertramp's Famous Last Words would be one - 'poppy' and trill. And how about Yes' Open your Eyes  ? How on earth, having just shown on Keys that much of the old magic was still there, could they possibly produce such a collection of dull, instantly forgettable songs ? But arguably the worst of all was Genesis' appalling Abacab. Another of the true greats, Genesis had managed to weather the storm and survive (albeit in reducued format) into the eighties. I can remember having high hopes for this album. Hopes, alas, that were cruelly dashed. An embarrassingly bad album.

Yes Talk. It sounded like a Nike commercial waiting to happen.
Phil Collins 1980s output; his "beer commercial" phase...

King Crimson - In the wake of poseidon (a pale shadow of the 1st album)
Genesis - The Lamb (I absolutely hate it)
Yes - Going for the one (Yes and prog generally were dead in 1977, and it shows. CTTE is also far from being a masterpiece, it's a 3 stars album for me)
Jethro Tull - Thick as a brick (a masterpiece.... why? Only the first 8-10 minutes are good. The rest is boring)
Camel - The snow goose (booooring!)
Strawbs - Bursting at the seams, Hero and heroine (bad followup to the good 2 previous albums)
Rush - .... well, I never had any big expectations of them anyway :-)

That's all for now. I don't mean to offend anyone, this is really what I feel. There are plenty of much worse albums, but I either didn't hear them because of their bad reputation or I didn't have big expectations of them anyway.

King Crimson' Islands. I knew it wasn't rated above four stars, but I'd seen a bunch of people say it was one of their favorites. I poped it in the CD player expecting an interesting album, but instead I heard one of the most boring albums in my life featuring one of the most annoying vocalists I'd ever heard.

For me it has to be Duke. I was 13 when And Then There Were Three came out and although it's not a classic it still has a definite prog feel to it at times whereas Duke was just a stream of pop drivel with one good instrumental. Works was also quite awful with Greg Lake's side being the wussiest sentimental rubbish imaginable and the whole album nothing like ELP had done before. I also agree with those who nominated Tormato, to go from the majesty of Awaken, the stunning beauty of Turn Of The Century and the bombastic brilliance of Parallels to a feeble offering with Rick Wakeman foresaking proper keyboards for an instrument called the Birotron is simply amazing. Save The Whale and Circus of Heaven are two of the worst songs I've heard in any style whatsoever. Three once marvellous bands reduced to such incompetence and lack of imagination or having any idea at all what their fans would like to hear is really quite stunning.

Radiohead's "OK computer"

I had heard so much about this band and thought "Creep" was very interesting so I expected to be blown away since so many reviewers expressed their opinion that this one was their apex.  It was nothing like what I expected.  The drums in particular were lethargic and pedestrian at best and that's always my starting point with any band.  I want to be moved by the music I listen to.  I like exploratory and cutting-edge music but this cd just didn't do anything for me.

Ive only really been dissapointed in an album twice, Dream Theater's Octavarium is easily their worst album and Yes Close To The Edge is just plain dull. With Yes' CTTE, I was expecting somethingto rival Foxtrot or Animals, but instead I got a cure for insomnia.

David Gilmour's On An Island comes to mind. Wow, what a snoozer.
