Topic: MikeEnRegalia recommends: Ephel Duath Posted: January 04 2006 at 10:42 |
Some songs of Maudlin of the Well are similar, but not that much...

Is that the new record? It's pretty damn good . I can see people into this liking Kayo Dot, although they're not that similar (who is?). Excellent stuff, anyway

^ listen to some newer KC ... might make it easier to see the connection. But of course Ephel Duath are much heavier, and the extreme vocals have nothing to do with any KC aera.

Well... I don't know much of KC (In the Cour of the Crimson King,
Islands, Thark [haven't finished listening this one] ). Wait... yeah
XD it does sound frippy in Labyrinthine (Crimson)
my bad
Yep... it's sounds like Fripp in Praha.

Well, i found that guitar very frippy. Especially in Praha (The Ancient Gold) and the the first minutes of The Picture.

I disagree... I don't see the conection with KC...
It's more like some Fantomas, some Arcturus and jazz/fusion passages. It's very weird to listen a trumpet in Metal . The drummer is very good too!
I don't think the vocals are that bad... at least they fit the music and sometimes are quite enjoyable.
Anyway. Ephel Duath r00l5!! (Listening The Painter's Palette Planning to do a review... but I'm a very bad writer )

The Painter's Palette sounds like Crimson 73-74 era...but much heavier.

Yeah..... I would really like to make a review of painter's palette but i have the songs only on the computer..... This cd can't be found out there.
This "jazz" metal sound is amazing and I kinda like the extreame vocals ..... I just think that their sound is extreamly original

I listened to another album by them today:

It's from 2000, and also very nice. They sound differently with every album!

The Painter's Palette and Pain Necessary to Know are both stunningly
original albums, these guys deserve to be better known on here.

I second that
I know them from their Opera demo period and I really loved Adulta Hieme. I also love Phormula.

Agreed - would be excellent but for the vox which unfortunately renders it unlistenable to these ears.

You can try to listen to some Opeth first to prepare your ears ... |
Actually I quite like Opeth, including the vocals. I think they fit
very well. I just didn't like the distortion that this particular band
use.. well, upon first listen anyway. I'll guess I'll try again

Well, I know the full album and I can say that the vocals are not as annoying as on Dillinger Escape Plan albums - they're not all over the place, and blend better into the overall concept. But of course some people will not like this type of vocals regardless of the way which they are implemented.
