1 - ELP and the progression of King Crimson needed to happen. This is easily the least desirable.

2 - Also pretty bad. A world without Close to the Edge, Relayer, Tales, Going for the One, and to a lesser extent Fragile would not be something I'm interested in. There's also the fact that classic Yes influenced plenty of other great bands I would not like to be without.

3 - This is worse than the previous choice. The music would be interesting but the loss of Jethro Tull and the good Yes albums would be too much to risk.

4 - This would probably be pretty neat.

5 - Crazy good music would probably come out of this. Extremely exciting and I'd be somewhat reluctant to give up the next few Genesis albums but the potential for greatness is up there.

In the 5 seconds I picked 5. Unfortunately I forgot this would negatively impact the King Crimson timeline. If I had more time I would have picked 4 put the gun was too persuasive.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal.

Option 5 but it would have to be with Tony Levin though.

[QUOTE=Bitterblogger]#3, to see which Anderson would've won out.
Another one--in Yes, what if Moraz had stuck around, and Wakeman never rejoined?
[/QUOTE

I would've liked to hear what more could have been done with Moraz, but I guess the fact it was his only album with Yes is what makes it special.  I love the fusion vibe on Sound Chaser.

Choice 2.   I've always wondered what would have happened if Banks had stuck around.

Option five sounds like it would produce the most interesting results. Even though I don't like the idea of Tony Banks leaving Genesis, Rick Wakeman joining the band would be very cool.

Option one - No way ! Both bands worked out just fine thanks. While Gregy's vocals were great in the early KC, I think I found them more interesting without it.

Option two - As above I don't think Yes suffered from this departure over the long run

Option three - I don't think Jon's voice would compliment Ian's flute playing at all. Jon just doesn't have the folksy voice that's need for the other Anderson's style.

Option four - Really ? Dream Theatre ? They are so 90's ! BTW, What did this Kevin guy do anyway?

Option five - Now you're talking !! But I really think that (at least in my alternate universe) Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett fire all the other slackers in Genesis and hire the list you proposed. Ok, maybe they let Phil play drums on one track but he doesn't get to go whith in 5 feet of a vocal mike !!

Thank you for supporting independently produced music

4 seems ok, I guess, but they may not have made 2 of my favorite DT albums in that case (Metropolis 2 and 6 Degrees).

5 is interesting, but the result may have meant some great bands and albums may never have happened.

Luckily the trigger was slippery, and some crazy bird lady came by and threw bird seed on the muggers, which attracted all the pigeons in Central Park.  It gave me enough time to choose option 4 and save Christmas.

But on a positive note, Kevin Moore is still in Dream Theater!......
Care to shed some light on this interesting view? Tongue

Personally, my two favorites albums from them are Awake and Images and Words (I also quite like When Dream and Day Unite, but the production is a joke). All 3 of those albums are drastically different and I think the quality of the compositions is just fantastic.

I even prefer Falling Into Infinity, featuring Derek Sherinian, over many of their more recent albums.

I think Rudess was a great fit for the first 2 albums they did together, but for some reason after that it's almost as if they ran out of juice and decided to just play lots and lots of notes. YES, i know this viewpoint has been exhausted by critics and fans of the band, and at this point nobody wants to hear about it, but in my opinion, it's true.

Not to say that I'm not a fan of Dream Theater. I'm a huge fan, and that's probably why I'm most eager to see what might have been if my favorite lineup had remained intact.

I went with 4 as I think its the only one that could have had a good outcome.

I pick #4 because I don't like Dream Theater and wouldn't care if their history is changed.  The others would have dire consequences that I don't like.

#1 doesn't work for me because even though I'm not the biggest ELP fan I'm glad they existed and I don't like the idea of Lake staying in Crimson.  It might jeopardize later albums I love, specifically their 80s output.

#2 I'm not very fond of Yes but enjoy some of their albums and this option might corrupt them (specifically close to the edge, in which wakeman has important contributions as a performer).

#3 is no good because I love Jethro Tull

#5 Genesis is nothing without Tony Banks.  Besides, I like Peter Gabriel's solo stuff as much as or more than Genesis in general.  I again would not want to corrupt the history of Yes or especially King Crimson with that lineup.  Plus, that means no "Trick of the Tail" or "Wind and Wuthering".  I agree with whoever it was above that wanted to pick "What if Steve Hackett never left Genesis"

I always thought 'Happiness is A Warm Gun' was not about a Gun! So I wouldn't be happy even momentarilly !!  Dead

Genesis would end up doing 'Video Killed the Radio Star' On Ice.

I think Gabriel would have done what he did in the real world. Solsbury Hill, Intruder ( where Phill Collins actually plays the drums ) DIY, Shock The Monkey etc etc. Wakeman would quit in disgust after the first album.

This may reveal a measure of historical ignorance on my part, but I tried to select musicians who were more or less "not committed" to any particular act around the given time period.  Wakeman had left Yes, Belew was just getting active in music, Bruford did in fact tour with Genesis, and Horn was just a backing musician for a disco performer (but formed The Buggles in 1978).

It has to be number 5 for me

It wouldn't have been 'Genesis' anymore - it would have evolved into someone rather wondrous, I feel

Ahem... back in the real world Embarrassed
