This thread is being made out of sheer whimsical fantasy, and also as a seque from the "Genius musicians" thread. What would be the greatest prog-rock supergroup to be able to see live and all record together? Considering all the amazing musicians on the prog scene, some of the amazing art that they could create by working together is probably astounding. Here's my dream supergroup:

Vocals - Daniel Gildenlow (Pain of Salvation)
Guitars - Steve Howe (Yes)
           - Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (The Mars Volta)
Bass - Pete Trewavas (Marillion)
Keyboards - Keith Emerson (ELP)
Drum Set - Neil Peart (Rush)

Additional Vocals and Flute - Peter Gabriel (Genesis)
Additional Guitar/ Ambience / Production - Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree)

Now just imgaine this line-up coming out with a CD....a prog-rock lover's wet dream I'd say (or at least mine ). I think this is the perfect mix (for me) of modern and classic prog from all different sub-categories. Now just strictly classic line-up...that'd be harder!

Lead Vocals - Greg Lake.

Backing Vocals - Queen, Heather Findlay.

Guitars - David Gilmour & Steve Hackett.

Bass - Geddy Lee.

Keyboards - Rick Wright.

Flute - take a wild guess. OK, it's Ian Anderson.

Saxophone - Ian McDonald.

For pyrotechnics and 'fun':

Ian Anderson

Rick Wakeman

Chris Squire

Carl Palmer

Jan Akkerman

Lock them in a fully equiped studio (egos left at the door) until they write at least 4 or 5 prog masterpeices:

Peter Gabriel

Dave Gilmour

Keith Emerson

Robert Fripp

Neal Morse

Mike Oldfield

Vangelis

Neil Peart

hmm, how's this for a odd supergroup of members:

Peter Hammill - Lead vocals

Keith Emmerson - Organ, Piano

Tony Banks - Synthesizer, Mellotron

Steve Howe - Acoustic Guitar, backing vocals

Roine Stolt - Electric Guitar, vocals

Chris Squire - Bass

Ian Anderson - Flute, backing vocals

Jean-Luc Ponty - Electric Violin

David Jackson - Sax

Neal Peart - Drums

Who knows what the heck would come from that line-up but it sure could be fun!

  1. Vocals: Gabriel & Annie Haslam
  2. Guitar: Hackett & Howe
  3. Bass: John Myung (Believe he would do a great job in other band)
  4. Chapman Stick: Tony Levin (The only way to include him)
  5. Keyboards: Tony Banks
  6. Drums: Phil Ehart
  7. Flute: Anna Holmgreen (Ian is better but I believe a flute duet between Gabriel and Holmgren would be amazing)
  8. Violin: Robbie Steinhardt

Almost an orchestra.

Iván

Well I'd like to see an Electronic/Prog Metal band wonder what that would sound like:

Oh what the Hell:

Guitars:

David Gilmour, Steve Howe

Bass:

Geezer Butler (Yes , I know...Mad)

Keyboards:

Jean Michel Jarre, Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson

Drums:

Ronald Rivron (Joking) but I would have Ian Paice as a drummer (Seriously)

Bobby McFerrin - lead vocals

Paul Mc Cartney - bass, vocals

Roger Hodgson - guitar, piano, vocals

David Gilmour - guitar, vocals

Phill Collins - drumms, vocals

that would be a bright band, sure

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez doesn't sing for the Mars Volta (well maybe backup sometimes) but he's only the guitar player and composer...the singer is Cedric, I assume you meant him??
