Topic: What do you think about THE CURE? Posted: November 22 2005 at 07:14 |
I`m truly a fanatic of PROG-music, but i have an open mind i also love bands from the 80`s such as DEPECHE MODE, DURAN DURAN, TALK TALK and especially THE CURE.
I think is a great band with a lot of prog moments. albums such as "Disintegration" or "Seventeen Seconds" can be catalog in the "extended" artrock category.
Give me your opinion about including this band in the archives
sorry my english!!!!!!

they had a few good songs and a whole lot of boring
ones. plus robert smith's whiny demeanor SEVERLY
gets on my nerves. i can appreciate that they were
and are an important force in pop music but IMHO
they are well past their sell-by date. anyway, i don't
think they have a place here.
PS: mind you, their MTV-unplugged-session from
about 10 years ago is very good, albeit not proggy at
all.

I have not listen to the Umplugged, I must get a copy
thanx for the tip
But bands like Talk Talk they are in the prog archives because of one album that strike them into here . example: Talk Talk = Laughing Stock

I think we're going a bit far... even Kiss or The Rolling Stones recorded a wannabe - prog album. I like them , but...

Maybe this should be on the 'Non prog music' page??
I think it would be difficult arguing a case for the Cure being prog. An excellent band nonetheless. I have been quite a big fan since about 1986 or so. Favourite album..'Kiss me Kiss me Kiss me'
Also love:
'The head on the Door' 'Disintegration' 'Pornography'
They had a hit single in the charts in 1978 called 'Killing an Arab' Imagine a hit single being called that nowadays. Surely radio stations must have boycotted this song? Anyone old enough to remember??

There was alot of good music in the 80's, outside prog world. You mentioned Duran Duran, Talk Talk and Depeche Mode. I like all those bands and it's good to see DM and DD still making music and playing it to huge crowds.

the cure. one of my favourite bands. they have done lot
of crap too in the 90's but the trilogy- pornography, disintergration,
and bloodflowers is so amazing, especially pornography. so emotional
music. robert smith is also one of the best singers and makes really
good lyrics. really dark and powerfull music if you listen to the right
albums

No - Spirit of Eden is prog (as well as being one of the most remarkable albums ever made).
PS - my wife's cousin is the Cure's drummer.

I JUST SEEING THAT MANY OF YOU THINK THE CURE MAYBE PROG, IM NOT SURE,AND TO BE HONEST I DONT THINK SO,
THE CURE IS A GOOD BAND, THE 80´S WORK IS VERY GOOD, DARK AND DEPRESSED, AND OTHERS 90´S WORKS ARE GOOD TOO, THE SINGER IS VERY EMOTIONAL AND THE LYRICS OBVIOUSLY TOO, MY FAV SONG IS CALLED FASCINATION STREET

Pictures of You is an amazing song. Don't know much else by The Cure though.
