Discipline was a huge let down for me too. I still can't get into it. Also Sigur Ros - (). I had read hundreds of five star reviews for this band and they sounded right up my alley, but man what a terrible record.

Mindcrime II is weird , play it a few more times .. trust me there is quality there (the second half that CD is very good in places)  it just takes a few extra plays to show itself  Wink

Yes - Drama (and I thought Tormato was weak!)
Genesis - And then there were three
ELP - Works Vol. I

Rush - Test For Echo
Voivod - Voivod, but the forthcoming album is even worse. Katorz is a beautiful tribute to the fallen friend, but please do not destroy the legend!
Queensryche - Hear In The Now Frontier
Marillion - Radiation
Dream Theater -  Awake (seriously! In '94 it was a huge disappointment for me.)

Oh yeah, The Final Cut, definitely. What a let down it was… I wonder if people still listen to that album…

resistance is futile

From the recent disappointments - GARDEN WALL's albums 93-97.Pure $%&$$&*,avoid THIS!!! .Others from my Garbage Box: CAFEINE,BLUE SHIFT,IN NOMINE,MAGELLAN...From previous years I remember my disappointments in MARILLION's "Cluthing at Straws",DT's "Octavarium"(though I like "Train of Thought"), SATELLITE(now I CAN listen to them, but in the very first listening I was bloody disappointed - are they the same band ,which made genius "Moonshine"?).

Also I found some pretty famous bands to be boring and repetitive to my taste - RUSH,GLASS HAMMER,ARENA,PENDRAGON,TANGENT,FLOWER KINGS and SPOCK'S BEARD.They're nice, but not much interesting for me

I do. I think it's one of Floyd's five best, after Piper, AHM, DSotM and Animals. It's certainly better overall than The Wall, though without any of the standout songs of that album.

I'm probably going to get killed for this, but Dark Side of the Moon I was disappointed with. I found it to be just useless sound effects and not enough melodies and main insturments. I really never got anything out of it.

As far as not living up to my expectations:

1) Foxtrot (Genesis)...this isn't a terrible album, in fact it's quite good.  But it probably does not make my top 50 favorite prog albums.  I was expecting this to blow everything else away.  Alas, it did not.

2) Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd)...like Foxtrot, this is a good album, but I just don't get much out of Shine On You Crazy Diamond (I actually prefer Welcome to the Machine).  This also wouldn't make my top 50 favorite prog albums.

3) Vapor Trails (Rush)...I can't stand this album, but I do enjoy Test for Echo and Counterparts.

Oh I'm not saying there's _no_ quality there. I find myself _wanting_ to like several songs, but I just never quite make it there.

I've already heard it thrice, and it's just nowhere near as excellent as the original, IMO.

I also really enjoy The Final Cut, although I wouldn't rank it as one of their best. I'll take it over Post-Waters Floyd anyday.

Camel - Rajaz.  I'd heard great things about this album as a return to form for the band, but found the album rather tedius.  Not bad, but not as good, I felt, as some had led me to believe.

For me and my friends, Going for the One was already a major dissapointment. Until then, Yes had always "progressed", moved into new terrain and taken major chances, but here it seemed like the first time they held back and moved on familiar ground. And after the wildness of Moraz's blistering keyboards, Wakeman was just so charming and SAFE again. OK, there were some beautiful moments, like "Turn of the Century", but nothing as earth-shaking as "Sound Chaser" or "Gates...". Tormato of course was a disaster, and by today's standards, GFTO is not such a bad album, but at the time, it was the first sign that the whole progressive movement was about to become tame, commercial, and irrelevant. There were worst disappointments to follow, leading to the final blow of Love Beach, but by then we'd given up expecting redemption from our previous heroes...that era was over, and everybody hunkered down for the 80s and New Wave.

the last Pendragon album (Believe, I think) sucked balls, imo.
I was gutted with Octavarium as well

"Animals" by Pink Floyd and everything that came after it. Everything is quite dull about that album, not even interesting sound effects. The best part is the beginning of "Sheep", and "Dogs" has a few moments too, but all in all - no thanks. Mark that I was a kid still when that album came out (I must have been 8 or 9), but I remember very well how very disappointed my parents were too. It is not for nothing that a young man with an "I hate Pink Floyd" t-shirt started a musical revolution around then.
