Hmm ... A number of candidates spring to mind. Supertramp's Famous Last Words would be one - 'poppy' and trill. And how about Yes' Open your Eyes ? How on earth, having just shown on Keys that
much of the old magic was still there, could they possibly produce such
a collection of dull, instantly forgettable songs ? But arguably the
worst of all was Genesis' appalling Abacab. Another of the true
greats, Genesis had managed to weather the storm and survive (albeit in
reducued format) into the eighties. I can remember having high hopes
for this album. Hopes, alas, that were cruelly dashed. An
embarrassingly bad album.

Black Moon, Paper Blood, Farewell To Arms, Close To Home are very good tracks imo. The album is not on the same level as most of their 70's output but it's not that bad(the only awfull thing on the album is the triggered snare-drum sound).
Ever want a really bad impression: In The Hot Seat, well that's the most awfull album'I've heard in my life....
The only reason for ELP to reunite is to record somethin' better than In The Hot Seat(because otherwise it'd be their last studio-album......cant't be).

I'll go with IQ - dark matter!
imagine: with 4 stars, it is stil my least favorite IQ album!
i like so much the trilogy ever-subterranea-7th house, that dark matter globally leaves me pretty unsatisfied. thus, tetralogy does not apply here.

^ By this point, these prog wunderkindern had lost their vaunted pre-pubescent progressive edge -- a decidedly uninspired, lacklustre effort!
The glory days of this V prog magnum opus (here seen in a rare Japanese edition) were far behind.
 That's right kids -- forget your limp Tools and Mars Revoltas: at their height (avg. 4'11"), Menudo were the real prog sh*t!

For sure we always get dissapointed when our favorite band goes through the toilet door....so in my case, at first it was Train of thought (Dream Therater), but then I heard it properly and it kicks. But then I liested to Six degrees of Inner Turbulence again.....the title track is gorgeous, but the first disc is just atrocious, the worst ever by DT, full of metallica, Nu-metal bullsh*t....
In classics, I was so desperate to finally meet Brain Salad Surgery....when I did, it dissapointed me in a way: I was expecting three musical wizards, and I got them...I was expecting prog-rock....and I missed the ROCK part....ELP was the only band ever that was JUST PROG, no prog-rock, just prog. ELP were in a genre of their own....

Seriously though, there's plenty of rock in ELP -- just ask any classical purist. They despised ELP for daring to "pollute" the classics with rock!

I was disapointed by rush's 2112. Somehow I expected more from lee, lifeson, and purt! The title track is weak and rather choppy. the rest is ok at best. The album is also too short! I should have bought hemispheres! Damn!

I tend to agree with you about the first but "Hand of Truth" is okay as is "Daddy", I've heard worse albums than "Hot seat" !

I know this has been said ad nauseum by many of you but...
10,000 Days was one hell of a let down for me ( I need to get this out in the open as it's only my second post).
I realise that ti is not always possible to continue to improve but after the masterpiece that Lateralus is, 10KD was a significant drop in standard.
When I heard Vicarious I was a little dubious as it sounded like a Lateralus b-side. You can imagine my disappointment in realising that it is the best song on the album.
The only thing original on the whole album is the Wings epic which I do appreciate quite considerably. The rest is give or take.
I haven't listened to the album in months and given that it only came out in May, I guess it says something when compared to Lateralus, to which I listened to continually for some three years.
