Points to be considered:
 
1) I totally agree with your first point, Thick and Minstrel are better than Play and Warchild.
 
2) Thick is always compared to Play for obvious reasons. I just wanted to toss out another angle. Because I'm an ass. End of story.
 
3) When I said that it was stupid to compare Thick with any other album, I was just talking from a highly personal point of view (i.e., I don't believe anyone here thinks as highly of the mighty Quad as I do, but you can all go jump in the nearest large body of water). Additionally, I don't think you're stupid for comparing apples to oranges there. I'm sure you're a great guy (albiet a tad sensitive mayhap).
 
4) Okay, maybe Skating's not the GREATEST song ever written, but that in and of itself is a pointless question because it's far too vauge and contantly debatable (but it's "Can't Hurry Love" by the Supremes. Think about it). Anyway, Skating is mighty fine though...

Yes, because Passion Play sounds like everything around it. Yes and ELP. Not that I have anything those dudes, but I like Jethro Ian because he was always a little different than the pack. Passion Play killed that. Sniff.
 
And Bungle is STILL a tricky orchestral rock song with a flute and sound effects regardless of what the radio believes.

Yeh, Warchild has some good pieces. Bungle and Skating Away are the Best. Sealion is good , but I think it shines more on Nightcap. It is more commercial, but sh*t loads better than the pointless and uninteresting  "Play".

Warchild is no more commercial than any of Tull's other crap. Which, okay, might be more commercial than, say, Van Der Graafers dropping lightbulbs as percussion. But still...

You see, at least "commercial "makes an attempt to APPEAL to people.
I hate to be on the side of defending Com Pop, but here (1974) it makes a point..
Passion is an unabashed, unashamed, pompous abuse of the musically uneducated. This rape of the public ear is ONE of the greatest catalysts in the oncoming punk philosophy.
ie- musical self indulgence (masterbation), to the enth degree, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

I just bougt remaster CD, and in booklet Anderson said that Passion play is their best, but the fans were dissapointed because they wanted another Aqualung.

Hard to say, neither are really first flight, imho. I would say that 'War Child' is at least less excessive than APP so that gets my vote, but it's 'not bad' rather than 'great' as I find so many of the songs to be insubstantial, something the remaster has not really done anything to change my mind about.

Both are far from being my favorites, but PP is probaby my least favorite Tull album. So Warchild.

The atmospheres on Passion Play are much more gripping.

Not to mention that War Child has NO atmosphere.
