Again, only PA bands, and not too big names, as to let more low profile bands have their exposure.
I would have added a few more, if there was space for more than 25 entries (bands like EF, CUL DE SAC, DIRTY THREE, GASTR DEL SOL, GREGOR SAMSA and others).
I might just do a smaller poll later on.
For all the terrific bands in this style, go here - http://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=32

All i can say is that i'm immensely pleased with the music of God Is An Astronaut & Valley Of The Giants.
I wish World's End Girlfriend would release a live album, (i've seen some shows on youtube that are amazing) he's a hero of mine as a person that tries to create layered multi-instrument music on his own. Grails is the only band i haven't heard on that list. *Goes off to check 'em out* |

From all of those bands on the list World's End Girlfriend made one of my favorite Post-Rock albums of all times, The Lie Lay Land. It's one of the most innovative albums that have come out of the genre. It may be hard to swallow at first, but in my opinion this is one of the best artistic statements that have come out of Japan (He's up there with Otomo Yoshide, Yamatsuka Eye, Masami Akita and Sachiko).
My vote goes to him. Edited by chamberry - January 26 2008 at 17:14 |

You have GOT to get Burning Off Impurities!!!
Radio Swan Is Down is a fantastic album!
I aimed only LOW-PROFILE and rather UNKNOWN bands.... Igor is hardly unknown in PA

Mono, God is an astronaught, Tuna Laguna, and Saxon shore are the only ones I heard/liked of these.
I'll go with mono. |

I love Mono and I think Yndi Halda has great potential, but my vote went to World End's Girlfriend for being one of the most refreshing post-rock acts of the last years.

Oh man, so many post-rock bands I still have to listen to.
I can say something about: Caspian - very typical and powerful post-rock band, but tad torn between heavy and mellow sounds, it's a contrast they could work on better. Otherwise, garage/EitS fans could love their full album. World End's Girlfriend - I got all their album, can't wait to listen, maybe I'll feel the same way Ruben does. So far I listened to their (his?) 2007 album, long and interesting, containing electronic shrapnel schizophrenias at times, along a lot of mixing. God Is An Astronaut isn't so unknown, if you ask me, I at least have them in my playlist for a long time. They fit a bit of an "eclectic" page, because their debut is mainly alternative-pop, their second album really shines with dramatic and harmonic textures, and their newest creation has a dark sensitivity combined with rich music. It's tasty! Scraps Of Tape have a genuine debut, it's the mixture of 65days, complex-post-rock and ambient/emotional melody that could work wonders. Their second album, unfortunately, becomes too typical, messy, insensitive to my ears. Silence Kit, finally, is a good, if minimal and based on spectacular effects, post-rock/math-rock project. Pionear is a combo of hard post-rock and very experimental silent tones (especially the 38 minutes epic gives you the taste of hot and cold), while The Great Red Spot is currently their best, fusing math/garage with post-rock and ambient. I'd say I'm generally impressed... Oh, almost forgot Maserati...Inventions For The New Season impressed me deeply...adrenaline, sensibility, post-rock groove...special music? maybe not, but a very, very powerful and pleasant work.
