Is it just me or is PA running really slowly lately?  I often find myself waiting a long time to do something as simple as refresh a page here, and in the meantime I can navigate the rest of the internet with typically blazing speed (which means it's not a lack of bandwidth on my end).  I'm not really sure what to do about this, just pointing it out.

What irks me the most is how often I wait for a page to load, only to get this:

Grr...I just got that it and it ate my post.  Luckily it was in STC and therefore of questionable (read: no) value.

I believe the problem is that some signatures are really huge, and it takes time to load those images.

I seen some that are easily 3 times he size of Rilleydog's which IMO should be the size limit.

No, it's not even on pages with images; I refresh the main forum page and it takes 30 seconds to do so, I go to another site somewhere else on the internet and it doesn't even take a second.

Both Raff and I.. at different times..places.. and at  different pages here  have had this happen.  It's the site... or something going on with it

I'll ask M@x to take a look. I think there was a similar bug a while back which he fixed.

I've had the timeout a few times recently. I think the response time is directly proportional to the number of posts James has made.

Jake's pretty much correct on this one. Whether or not a page loads at horribly slow speed seems to be entirely random and I notice no correlation between pages full of big sigs and slow speed. In the day and age of most users probably using high speed connections well above dial up speed, the big signatures have no real impact on the speed of the forum from what I can and what other can probably see, it seems to be some other bottleneck elsewhere.

Thanks for reporting it but actually nothing point any valid reason execpt signature image files slow to load for some users.

The DB Timeout occurs from time to time, if repeated times in a row occurs, let me know immediately [email protected]

Thanks

Well, I'm really starting to have problems lately too.  I have no trouble anywhere else except the forums here.  It just goes beyond crawling to pure standstill at times.  If I jump to another site from there, everything is instantly fast...so it is definitely not my ISP.....it's something here.

Any sort of pattern with it? Does it slow down after you've been using it for a while? What operating system/browser are you using?

The more info the better for M@x to investigate.

Well I have Windows XP with Firefox here.  No discernible pattern, some times it seems good, often it is slow.

Same here... Actually, at work I use Explorer, and Firefox at home, though I haven't noticed any substantial differences in speed so far.

The forum site seems to crawl and sometimes, it practically stands still.

It is the same whether I am using Explorer or Firefox (my preferred).

I have similar issues sometimes accessing forum. Sometimes I need to double click the forum tab or " stop" and "click" and start again. More forum related than the review home page. I put it down to traffic congestion? Considering the size of your database I would have to assume (correctly or incorrectly) that it is definitely NOT server related
