John Myung. *Waits to get stabbed by random Dream Theater hater.*
Regardless of whether you like DT or not, John Myung is a good bassist and nobody can take that from him.

Other: Alejandro Herrera, a magnificent Argentina jazz-fusion player.(bass of course) He really played before also, but he stills give some plenty of "concerts" here, a very talented bass player, but unfortunately very unknown.

I like ProgBagel's pick in Sean Malone. And Tszirmay you surprised me with that SIMON SAYS bass player, thought you'd pick Jonas Reingold for sure. I really like the bass player for EXSIMIO i'd have to look up his name. Philippe Bussonnet from MAGMA and ONE SHOT just kills on bass. So many though, especially in the zeuhl genre like Janik Top.

Reingold should be the one actually , such a cool dude to boot. Big hands , though. Its just that Renstrom 's style really took my breath away , haven't heard that much fuzz in a long time! But you are right, as i mentioned in the general music bass poll today , there must at least a good 200 amazing prog bass players out there , if not more!

Colin seems to get least noticed, yet he has some of the best parts! His bass lines are fantastic and I always enjoying picking them out and grooving to them.

Just listen to Vintersorg's Visions
And of course the all time winner Tony Levin. He's amazing on everything he does.

Colin Edwin is my choice. then the others ( as far as I know them) and then John Myung.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a DT fan, but JM seems to be the weakest link. No great runs or fills, just thrumping along with the song chords almost impeceptably somewhere in the background, burried in the mix on the studio albums.
He seems to be very busy, I was surprised to SEE his dextrous fingerwork live and HEAR practcally nothing except a monotone drone.
DT would definitively benefit from a good bass player.

Damn, I overlooked 'other' Please scratch my Colin Edwin vote, I'd like to change it, having Tony Levin in mind, followed by Dieter Horns (honestly), who used to play bass for Lucifer's Friend, and him in turn followed by John Paul Jones. In fact Horns and JP Jones are on the same level, I think.
