I'm a huge fan of this project, and I want to know the opinion from the progfans about it... I see they are not that famous nor mentioned in many of the threads so this is the deal:

The electronic mixture with streight metal riffing and a lot of ambience synth and samples are the elements of the project, very accesible for mainstream audience as well as progfans... I think both Matheos and Moore understand very well about what sound they like and they are working on their own path... maybe they are not groundbreaking, but that's not the intention of this project, I think every single element is there to improve the meaning of the songs...

Especially, the emotionless voice from Kevin Moore is ideal to take the roll of this "spy" character of the story of the three albums... his hipocrit attitude and his tricky meanings about what he really means is very fun to hear and very well developed... there's a lot more to talk about the guess players and the particular things about each album... hope that you share you impression about this band... the main thing is:

Is this a omen for what's to come in other prog bands? Is this music the sound of the future...???

EDIT: I changed the name of the thread because there is no official Appreciation thread about this band, so I invite you to post if you knew this band... cheers...

Ah, now here we go! I love O.S.I.

Their newest album in particular, with the stellar drumming of Gavin Harrison, really floored me. A very dark, brooding little project. Here's hoping they develop further and....maybe, just maybe....tour?

Music of the future? Hey, I'm all for it

I love the band, and the sound really fits their talents perfectly. I enjoy the formula, but I don't think it's inherently anything really special.

Tour...now that would be really interesting.
I love their formula but I wouldn't think that it's the next step in prog evolution.
What's prog evolution, btw? It's always going round and round and getting new branches, it's more like a labyrinth than a stream. That's how I view it.

Oh well... maybe they are not groundbreaking but they really are at the top of that electronic-metal merge... About the Glass Onion...??? well... there is a plot line in the 3 albums, so I don't think it's that hide... I prefer Mike Portnoy to Gavin... I don't know why... maybe hearing Portnoy with a small fancy kit and sound equally great is great and healthy... and is nice to see Moore taking control and not alouding the showing off... jejeje... but well... a tour is difficult to happen... Kevin Moore is too weird in my opinion... he is not that much interested in live performances... which is sad but... what I know about him...

Sometimes bands are studio only for very good reasons.

I believe you are right. However, it would be more fair to attribute this direction to Nine Inch Nails.

Yeah... maybe... they really bring a lot of this elements... but I think O.S.I. take it to a complete new level...or maybe is that their sound apeals more to me... but hey... I would love the next age of music if it sounds like that...

So... which is your favorite guest performance in this project? there was:

-Steven Wilson lyrics and vocals on the track shutDOWN song.

-Sean Malone incredible bass playing in the first album.

-Joe Vera (Fates Warning) did it for their second album Free.

- Mikael Akerfeldts lyrics and vocals in their third album song Stokolm.

-Tim Bowness as a vocalist in a bonus track called No Celebrations.

- Mike Portnoy as a guest player in the second album.

-Gavin Harrison in the third album.

Which one do you like most?

I think focus on names is not a good idea and "names" dont make good music. I love O.S.I and first time i listen O.S.I i possessed. but i cant say " music for future" to it . O.S.I is very impressive and Kevin know how make sense to others. He invite another famus artists and use metal riffs with electronic music to impress. With theses elements he have wide range of prog fans.
Progressive is a multi side musical art and few names or few elements not enough to make or reach to next level. Essential question is " What is level in prog?"

I really need to check this out, I love Kevin Moore and I've loved the samples I've heard from them. I'm planning on getting the debut soonish.

I know it's expensive Joel, but make sure to buy the special edition... besides of the wonderful digipack (one of the most originals I have seen) the music in the second CD is excellent, no mind that it last only 30 minutes of music. It also came with footage of their recording process... is not a formal documentary, it's just a camera recording some songs and that's it... but I think you will love it Joel... let us know when you finally get it Ok...???

I've only got one of their albums (the special edition of Blood), and like it quite a bit.  Getting another album of theirs is on my long list of things to buy.

I'm having a bit of trouble finding a decent price for the limited edition of the debut; the band's store on Burning Shed has sold out of everything I'm still looking for one though. If anyone has a recommendation for an online store to buy it from, I'd love to be told.
