Tough. Two drummers I love for totally different reasons. I'll go Jaki because I find he's a bigger part of his band's sound.

Jaki. Christian seems like an action guy but he doesn't provide enough action to my ears. Jaki, on the other hand, was (and probably still is) one of the most proficient drummers in Germany, and I do like his more sophisticated drumming style quite a bit.

Jaki by far. He was such a big part of the band's sound. Whenever I think about Can, it's the rhythms and textures from his playing that instantly stick out. An all time favourite for sure.

Christian Vander for me.

I am currently digging:
Hawkwind, Rare Bird, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Khan, Iron Butterfly, and all things canterbury and hard-psych. I also love jazz! Please drop me a message with album suggestions. |

As a drummer myself, there are only a couple of prog drummers I'm crazy about. These are two of them, both are amongst my faves. Have to go with Vander, though. Jaki is the master of the motorik drumming, but CV is a great groover as well. I have plenty of vintage vids of both and it's CV who does stuff that leaves me in awe (as in, "how the heck did he do that fill?"); both are awesome, although I prefer CV's jazz chops to JL's.

Agreed. Vander is one of those "super drummers" that has a universe of chops and his stamina, feel and control is just breathtaking. Absolutely on the level of giants like Billy Cobham, Buddy Rich and the likes. However, Jaki's grooves and feel can NOT be praised enough. One of the tastiest drummers I know of and mixes the simple with the tricky brilliantly!
