Atomic Rooster, The Nice and Yes. Very difficult to leave out great debuts by The Doors and of course KC, but the latter gets enough love and let's face it the jam on Moonchild is tedious.

EDIT: Just realised the Rooster came out in early 70, though recording started in late 69. I love it so I'm keeping it in!

1) The Doors - The Doors
2) Santana - Santana
3) Mr. Fantasy - Traffic

Not a big fan of the debuts from the main prog contingent though I do like Caravan's debut.

Ignoring Proto and non-PA stuff...

Pink Floyd - The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
Caravan - s/t
Amon Duul II - Phallus Dei

I find with '60s music most artists get a lot better after their debut.

As KC's debut has already been mentioned by quite a few people, I'll choose some lesser-known (but equally outstanding) albums:

The Pentangle - s/t (1968)
High Tide - Sea Shanties (1969)
East of Eden - Mercator Projected (1969)

The 60's and 70's period is a timeframe i need to look further into. While i typically enjoy more modern music, i still feel like im missing out on more lesser-known bands of the decades.
