Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I observed before. It can be much like that with music for me; immersed in experiencing the moment.

Thanks! I was unfamiliar with this band, and now I'm excited to get these on CD or MP3. The search is on...

...but be careful. Later they did some truly terrible pop stuff (I still quite like "Stundenschlag" that came after "Reise", although arguably they there already left prog territory, but what follows then is really forgettable). On the other hand "Weisses Gold", which came before "Reise", may also be of interest. I saw "Reise zum Mittelpunkt des Menschen" for about 10 Euros on amazon.de.

^ I'm with you. I saw a 7-CD package of Stern Meissen that is selling for around $40-$50, but some CDs had ratings (here on PA) as low as 1.3! I can't remember the last time I saw ratings that low! The package included "Reise...", "Weisses...", and the original live "Stern Combo Meissen", which seem to be pretty good. So 3 good CDs for $50, maybe it's still worth it.

That may depend on how much $50 is for you... I like the band and their first four albums a lot, but I'm not objective. The band played a special role in my youth and will always be dear to me, although I see that also the first four albums can be criticised in various valid ways. You can check some more stuff out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91t49W931Dc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWQePMJaB_s (The first live album has good stuff but is a bit uneven.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouKmm6vqivw (Weisses Gold has a somewhat annoying narrator, particularly if you don't know German and can't follow the story.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqHOy-hNxpo (This is an excellent song from Stundenschlag, maybe even their best, despite that album scoring 1.9 here.)

Back to the question at hand... Here's some ELP-ish work by Nexus on their Metanoia album. Not especially Tarkus-like, however. Many other examples on this album, but it does have some foreign-language vocals, as the band is from Argentina.

I see that you have dived into Stern (Combo) Meissen and wrote some very nice reviews! ![]() The band is still touring by the way (although only Martin Schreier remains from the old days, and probably they won't do much outside Germany's east). |

Thanks for your kind remarks! Yes, I really enjoyed diving into SCM. Thank you for turning me on to them! I bought the 7CD box set for $42. I think there are 4 good albums, so $10.50 for each isn't too bad. The last two (Nachte and Taufrisch) -- although they aren't prog, they are still good 80's synth pop. Well done, in fact. So all in all, it was a pretty good deal.

If you mean bands with prominent keyboards (especially Hammond organ), and lengthy mostly instrumental tracks, these came to mind:
Triumvirat Glass Hammer (particularly Empty Space – Revealer and The Knight of the North) Par Lindh Project Nathan Mahl The Flower Kings (some parts) Anglagard (some parts) Check out this: total Emerson rip-off ![]() Jordan Rudess also contributed to the genre: 10:36 very Emersonesque solo Edited by awaken_yesfan - October 21 2019 at 08:07 |

Mosh is as much SPIRIT as all of you, so I wonder where the ignorance really starts and ends! I am not here to "knows what is good for us all" ... I'm here simply because too much of this site is about everyone kissing everyone and supporting their top ten bits and pieces, and not showing enough taste/touch/beauty in their acceptance of MUSIC ... the real thing, not just top ten crap! TARKUS is not a top ten piece ... and ELP knew it ... and attacked it like it ... and that makes it even more important ... the fact that so many folks don't even listen to its very lyrics! ... and of course, never EVER realize what a great piece of composition it really is ... and how it will be remembered for a long time past our own lives. We can discuss "ignorance" after evaluating what you have given an ear to in your lifetime and all the rest that is out there that so few give a f**k about! AND CALL THEMSELVES PROGRESSIVE something or other!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
