On a scale of 1-10, what do you rate Yes Tales From Topographic Oceans?

No half or quarter points; whole points only!

GO!

Tales is my favorite yes album. The first two songs are 10/10 for me, absolute perfection. #3 is probably an 8-8.5 and #4 is probably a 9. So I vote 9 on this poll, but I round up to 5 stars for my progarchives album ratingSmile

9/10--its not perfect but just listened to it from begging to end and if you are in the right mood it is sublime--so rich so many sounds such great playing (especially Howe) very moving and for sure epic.

The Revealing Science of God: 5.5-6*
The Remembering: 4.5
The Ancient: 8
Ritual: 2

That makes it 5/10 (in the range 2-2.5 stars).

* The rating for this song is lowered a bit because some synthscape was added ahead of the glorious vocal intro in later releases.

I can remember reading some of the reviews in the musical press that I got hold of in the late 70's...shameful attacks by no-nowt critics who just wanted something to dance round their handbags to. Bet one of em waa mickys dad...😎

It's simply one of my favourite albums of Yes. So, it has a very high rating, 9/10.

Giving it a "5". It has its moments.

8/10 ... had it been a single album with all the best parts condensed to one single album it could have been a 10/10  Tongue

That's pretty much how I feel, and I gave it 8, too.  Though I was tempted to go to 9, on the basis that I have always suspected I just haven't tried hard enough to get into it, or that there's some other failure on my part.

In the end though, I can only really go with the response I have, not the one I wish I had.

I like it but it has some flaws, so it's a 7.
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution
