Eraserhead would be a choice of mine. The Holy Mountain (Alejandro Jodorowsky) and being John Malkovich.
Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I observed before. It can be much like that with music for me; immersed in experiencing the moment.

The Talented Mr. Ripley was an "intelligent" film. One of my biggest Hollywood surprises for sure. Not sure if "unique" or not though.

The Shining (1980) has to be a "unique" horror film.

Since the creator of the thread has mentioned something ending in 66, I may say there was a Soviet kinda-children's movie Aybolit-66 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aybolit-66). It wasn't popular among its audience, allegedly for being too sophisticated for children's minds, and too childish for the adult viewers. 

The movie sort of used Monty Python's ideas 3 years before the creation of The Flying Circus. 

Here's one of the prominent moments in the movie, three pirates (antagonists for sure) perform a song called, "Sane protagonists always go around" while certainly going around to catch the protagonist:

I wasn't aware that such a movie exists. BTW I watched Mr. Ripley about 2 decades ago, and honestly I don't remember much details about it. But I was pleasantly surprised about its "intelligence".

Unique seems similar to the other thread on weird and strange but at any rate one that sticks with me is
Inland Empire , a Lynch film.....though to me most of his films are unique.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

I remember renting "Remains of the Day" when it came out , I watched 20 minutes and returned it to Blockbuster, no action, no sex, no violence , no drama...boring. But a strange thing happened the next day, I could not get those darn 20 minutes out of my head! Images made no sense in terms of impact (like ironing a newspaper, or a racy novel against one"s chest or the inability to express your feelings because of social position or tradition) . I have watched it at least 20 times by now and it still has so much juice. Each scene has a purpose, though wrapped under a veil of diffidence, once you see how it is all so subtly interwoven, it is quite a revelation. My favourite movie all time (no sex, no violence, no action but a  lot of deep internal drama). 
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

As @Dr wu23 said, anything by David Lynch is 'interesting'. Zabriskie Point is fairly unique, as is Easy Rider. Then there's A Clockwork Orange and One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest!!!

The original The Wicker Man and Donnie Dario also spring to mind. Cronenberg films such as Videdrome, and definitely Peter Greenaway films such as The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover.
