+1 and my how I've tried and tried and tried...
I just find them soporific and, other than that, they produce no reaction in me at all - probably the only music I can actually say that about.

Marillion, Pendragon, IQ and the whole Neo-Prog thing in general, just too watered down and poppy for my taste.

Rush - MAINLY because of Geddy Lee's screechy voice and how for a while it seemed like they were hopping on almost every bandwagon that came along in the 80's. I actually do like certain songs and such, just not enough to make me want to buy a whole bunch of their albums.

Dream Theatre - Puts me to sleep with its unending chops for chops sake w**kery.

Spocks Beard/Flower Kings: To my ears, just rehashed Genesis and Yes. Guys, THEY DID IT ALREADY!!!

People are puzzled why I don't dig the Stones, well, I listened to the Stones, I tried, and I tried, and I tried, and--I Can't Get No Satisfaction!

Three very different groups ... Can, Ambrosia and Transatlantic ... occupy this space for me ...

90% of peopel praise Can's Tago Mago as a work of genius ... it's simply beyond me ... I don't like the vocals, the basic compositions, the improvisations and I even think the musicians aren't that great! I've listened to about 3 hours of Can music, before deciding they Can't

Ambrosia is just so tame to my ears. The album that I have Somewhere I've Never Travelled is rated among proggers but it sounds like limp 70s pop-rock to me. The "prog" just seems to be aimless stuff. The band's musicians are strong in a Toto/session musician kinda way, but that's about all

Transtatlantic. Another outfit with very competent musicians ... but the rambling, overambitious songwriting doesn't exactly produce stuff I want to hear
"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

I did say Country is GENERALLY sh*t. Shania Twain and Gordon Lightfoot are close to this genre but are honourable exceptions to this generalisation.

Sorry, I`m not the Doctor, but I was who commented about Shania Twain. I think that she is the wife of Arena Rock Bands` producer John "Mutt" Lange (he produced Foreigner`s and others albums).

Neil Young and "Crosby, Stills, Nash &Young" also are more or less country, and they are good too.Bob Dylan too.

Marillion, or for that matter all Neo-Prog. I just can't stand the stuff and tend to stay away from it like the plague. I've been suckered enough times that maybe THIS one will be a good neo-prog band....nope, I despise them all.
Can you tell me where my country lies...

Their sound and the main vocals. I prefer to listen to troubadour music than to their music.

Lucas, I'm intrigued that you are showing Tony Williams Lifetime's Turn It Over album's front cover (which I believe was released a few months before Bitches Brew) and bravely stating you're having problems getting into Zappa.

I don't like Zappa's vocals and his guitar soloing whereas Tony Williams never disappointed me, apart from the 'Milion dollar legs' thing.

Yes, an attempt to sound like troubadours.

  • Dream Theater (partly because they can't spell )
  • I really cannot stand Pink Floyd.
  • I've never really got into any Genesis before Foxtrot. Don't know why though...

And their only song of that nature. I find your comments a bit strange really, Lucas. How can you dismiss a song like "Interview" or "So Sincere" as troubador music? Most odd...
