I am a Yes fan since 1973 but I think this is one of their finest tracks. Everything works and meshes perfectly, Alan White gets a super drum break in the middle and the lyrics and harmonies are spot on.
Actually, I like all of Tormato and I think it's an underrated album. Comments? |

It's a fine song—very much in the same vein as Going For The One, but frankly I've never cared for the "crowd noises" on top of what are pretty interesting drum and guitar passages.

Maybe they were trying to get a stadium rock feel? Anyway, I like how it sounds, the whole track.

I have come to appreciate the album more over time.
I remember back in the vinyl days, it was the only Yes album you'd find in the cut-out bin. Remember the cut-out bin? They would actually damage the album cover/sleeve as recourse for having to sell off the "undesirable" titles for $2.98 or whatever. |

I roomed with an AC/DC fan about 1980 and he played that song to death ( I had a copy of Tormato on cassette which he grabbed at every opportunity it semmed). I got so fed up I taped over it with an Adam and The Ants song just to annoy him. I was very mean to do that but got the usual 'you f**ker' reaction from him so job done. In general I like Tormato but Release, Release is one of the weaker songs on it imo.

One of the good songs on the album.
I don't think the album is underrated, quite the contrary, it's always had its defenders here on PA. |

Ha ha, that's quite funny. I don't agree with your opinion of Release, Release though Richard, I think it's brilliant. I used to have the opening riff as my ringtone and nobody ever knew what it was. |

After I listen to Tormato,"Release Release" gets stuck in my head.
I find myself sing/talking Release Release around the house for a day or two. |

One thing I love about Tormato. Because I played it SOOOO much less than the other albums back in my music-rabid younger years, it almost feels like a "new" lost Yes album from the 70s era. It's not like the earlier stuff where every note is memorized. So it's an old Yes album with surprises.
That seems to be what Presence is for Zep fans. I've known may LZ "fans" who are mystified why they never purchased Presence back in the day, so it feels like a "new" Zep album to them. |

Always loved 'Tormato', and I really like the album cover as well.

I like Tormato too. Most of the material is good. Only song I don't care for is Circus of Heaven. Production is not great and Yes deciding to produce themselves was not a good idea. Would have been a very good album had they had a strong Producer. Release, Release I think is one of the stronger tunes on the album. However, not a fan of the added crowd noise. Unlike you, I hate the album cover. Hipgnosis has put out some iconic album covers, but the Tormato one is terrible. The previous one was not that good either. Hipgnosis was not good for Yes. |

I needed a reminder:
Not my usual kind of thing, and I quite enjoy it (I think this is one I would like more if it was half the time, or half the "Release" of "Release, Release" one might say. I was looking at the ratings at PA, and it's it that lower three which is moderately good overall. At RYM it's aliitle less than three. The reviews/ratings range from one star to five. Lots of three star reviews, and I have given albums i love three stars. "They wanted mercy, he didn't." As for the cover, why the crotch? I'm reminded of Matthew Holness' (of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace) excellent short film A Gun for George where the publisher asks the writer of the vigilante crime novel series The Reprisalizer, "Why is it always the balls?" |

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.
